No, not literally. Although I am convinced that our Waverly Maye is a genius baby (Aren’t all moms?), she is not yet walking (in fact, we are still working on that “rolling over” thing). The steps I am referring to in this blog title are metamorphically speaking, of course, and in reference to the recent highs & lows we have had with Waverly’s sleeping situation. I will start with the low, and end with the high since I always like to end on a positive note. 🙂
LOW – We have had Waverly down to a “once-a-night” wake-up for at least couple of months now. She was going down to sleep at about 8 every night, and not making so much as a peep until 3/4 in the morning. And on a few rather magical nights, she even slept straight through until 5 or 6 AM when I was getting up for work. I was feeling rather accomplished in the fact that my sleepless nights were behind me, and was sure that as Waverly grew, our household sleep schedule was only going to get better. Well, I clearly did not read my baby books in enough detail, because if I had, I would have been at least a little more mentally prepared for my future. It appears that most babies experience a “sleep regression” at four months old, and our Waverly Maye is no exception. Our good little sleeper is now waking up 2-3 times during each night, and that means that so is Mommy. That continued improvement in sleep I was looking forward to … Yea, not so much. Our new “lack of sleep” schedule has been occurring for about a week now.
*I must note that even if there was no high to report, and if Waverly’s new sleep regimen continued into a couple of months, she would still be more than worth it, of course. I must also note that I really hope it doesn’t.
HIGH – As previously posted, our Waverly Maye has been sleeping in our room, specfically in her swing, for the duration of her four month life. Well, we have finally started to pave the way to a new place of slumber (her crib, in her own room). Of course, mommy was not too excited, nor the one to initiate the move .. But I realize the importance its importance and thus, agreed. We are accomplishing this move one step at a time … And although we are still in stage two (in a rock’n’play in her room) … We are certainly progressing. As of now, we have had no major meltdowns, although we have come close a time or two. I consider that a success.
Do the high & low have anything to do with each other? Possibly, I would presume. Yet we will continue on our quest for a return to nights (almost) full of peaceful slumber. And again, yes, she is more than worth it.

Waverly at a peaceful moment. 🙂 |
Just wait girlie! Haha! It happens again and again! Just when you think you've acomplished one thing its another! Whenever Lily is trying to do a new trick ie:rolling over, sitting up, crawling, standing, walking…she starts practicing at night. Its like her little body is working on its own while she's asleep and sure enough it wakes her up several times a night. One time when Lily was trying to sit up on her own, Will and I went in her room to check(really just admire)on her and there she was sound asleep, sitting up. It was hilarious! Long story short, the sleep thing will keep you on your feet, literally! Call me sometime and we can exchange sleep sagas! 🙂
