This Friday is a good one, I’m so excited to relax after a week back at work & to do it with one extra day thrown in! Also, today we celebrate my 31st birthday. 🙂 It’s not nearly as exciting of a celebration that Waverly’s was a few weeks ago, but alas, we will celebrate. Because we love to do just that.
Seeing that I already went through the whole milestone birthday last year, this one feels way less special & comes with way less pressure. I like that. Honestly, & I know this is cliche, the older I get the less important the “number” becomes. I remember thinking that thirty(one) sounded really, really old & there are definitely times that I have a complete reality check on my age (like when I am watching reality tv & every single person is at least five years younger than me, most more than that). Yet most of the time, I love this age I am at, I love how much more life experience I have, & therefore how much less I care about the little things that don’t matter. And of course, most of all, I love that I get to have Waverly Maye as my birthay present year after year.
Tonight, I will celebrate in true thirty-year old fashion, with dinner at the Mexican restaurant with a few friends & family. We have a wedding tomorrow so I really hated the idea of leaving Waverly two nights in a row & also, not celebrating with her. So ultimately, the kid-friendly plan won out & I couldn’t be happier about it. 🙂
Since this weekend also marks Labor Day, we have accepted the fact that it’s now time to say good-bye to summer & hello to fall. It’s definitely a bittersweet feeling, we really are excited for the months to come but this summer babe is going to have some serious water withdrawal. We will forever remember this summer as one of our best ever, the one in which (among many other things), Waverly basically learned to swim, count to fifteen, fell in love with her babies, & also, that the sun turned her red hair strawberry-blonde. 😉 It’s crazy how many people have stopped to ask me where she gets her blonde hair from lately, I’m so anxious to see if it goes back red this fall & winter!
We are wishing you all the best holiday weekend, enjoy these last summer moments with those you love! XOXO
Back when I was planning my wedding, my mom & I used to reserve Fridays for vendor meetings, tastings, or DIY projects for my upcoming big day … we called them “Wedding Fridays.” I used to look forward to them every week, and it was most often my movitation when frustrated with the craziness of my schedule or (in simple terms) – the fact that I didn’t often even have time to pee.
Now that I am a mom, my love of Fridays certainly hasn’t changed. Obviously, if anything, I look forward to my Fridays MORE as a chance to enjoy an afternoon with my baby girl without the thought of having to leave her the following morning. The exhilerated feeling I get when leaving school to go pick her up for our weekend of quality time together just never goes away. We still meet my mom most weeks, although our new afternoons consist of Babies’R’Us and Baby Gap rather than the florist or the wedding day location.
Fridays during this month will (obviously) be holiday-related. We took advantage of yesterday by taking Waverly to see Santa. I’ve always heard stories or seen videos of kids being scared of Santa Claus. It seems that this year at least … Waverly Maye is unphased. Other than a strange look at the big man, she didn’t even blink an eye. Here are the pictures we got … Even though “elves” we’re clearly not in a festive mood and wouldn’t let us get close to document the moment. (They wanted us to spend the $50 on their photograph, of course.)

my gal is most definitely in for a harsh reality this fall. cold weather AND a new sister? yikes. maybe she'll be so enthralled with the baby she'll be okay trapped in the house with me. one can hope. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! drink a margarita for me!
You are so beautiful! Happy Happy Birthday!!!!!!! I am right there with you on the kid friendly bday celebrations… way better! 😉 Hope you guys have a fabulous weekend! xoxo
Happy Birthday beautiful! Enjoy your Mexican dinner with your gorgeous girl and have a wonderful long weekend. Cheers to you!!! xx
Happy birthday, sweet friend!! We are excited for fall over here but I am sure Scarlett will be going through some water withdrawals also 🙂
Happy birthday girl! I hope Waverly spoils you!!!
Happy Birthday!!! Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!! Xoxo
Happy Happy Birthday gorgeous girl!! Hope the weekend is absolutely fabulous for ya!! xoxo
Happy Birthday to you! I hope you have a fun time celebrating! And yes, to the reality show people being at least 5 years younger than you! Holy cow. My hubby and I were just talking about that the other night. Makes us feel so old! Yikes. Even though it's really not that old. Anyhow, enjoy your long weekend of celebrations!
Happy Birthday, Ash!! It will be the perfect celebration! It's funny how our view of celebrations change once we have babes! Enjoy your long weekend!
happy birthday! we share the same birthday! (and michael jackson, eh!) i'm a year older though. i agree with what you said about moving past 30…
enjoy your labor day birthday celebration, i'm planning to string it out through the whole weekend 🙂
Aw, LOVE, love that!! 🙂 Happy birthday to you! I do think it's funny that Micheal Jackson shares the same birthday, haha!!!!!
just noticed where you said waverly was your best present — another similarity with you and i — my son was born august 16. today i told him he was my best birthday present and he said, "i'm not a birthday present! i'm a big boy!"
Hope 31 is your best year yet, sweet friend! Have so much fun at your birthday celebration! 🙂
Happy Birthday! I turned 31 this summer also, and I agree, the older I get, the less I think about the number. Like seriously, I forget how old I am and have to stop and think about it if someone asks…(which probably means I'm really old!). Have a great time! Mexican food + margaritas is a perfect low key celebration in my book 🙂

happy birthday girl! 31 has been a pretty fabulous year for me! Hope it is for you as well! And I'm all about kid-friendly birthday celebrations these days…I'd much rather celebrate with those people I love most, and Elyse is definitely among that group!
Happy Birthday! I can totally relate about low key birthdays and the number not mattering as much. I turned 30 this year and sometimes I feel old and other times I feel young. I'm one of the younger moms when we go to play dates and classes for Noah.
Happy Birthday Ashley! Enjoy your weekend and I hope your first week back with students is great!
I hope you had the BEST birthday!!! (I totally misunderstood you and thought your birthday was in September and not August though lol.) I turn 30 this year and while I am slightly freaking out, to be honest, I don't really care because like you said, age is just a number, and I don't really care about the number right now. Hope your hubby and Waverly spoiled you rotten!
Happy birthday!! I'm turning the big 40 In January and I can't wait!!! Age is CERTAINLY just a number!
What an exciting birthday!! Enjoy it, mama!
Happy belated birthday, Ashley! Hope that Mexican food was fantastic! 😉 May this be the best year yet, and I'm so happy to have another blogger friend who is loving their 30s as much as I am. Cheers, my dear!
