Yesterday was the first day of my back to school week, summer is officially over + it is back to routines and way less free time for all four of us girls around here. It is soooo bittersweet!!! I am the first to admit that this was probably the hardest summer I have ever had, there were some days I seriously struggled to make it through the hours until my husband made it home. Remerie is still so little, she really NEEDS two good naps to make it through the day and is definitely not the kind of baby that can sleep anywhere. Waverly + Avalon are used to being at school, busy and entertained and doing all the things, and so trying to manage keeping them happy with only about a three hour window between Remie’s naps (and also finding things that they all three could do at very different ages) — was way more challenging than I ever thought it would be. BUT WE DID IT! And made some really beautiful memories along the way. Somehow I already miss it + know that this will forever be a summer I look back on with so much happiness, motherhood is crazy like that!
So crazy to see how much they all grew + changed over just a few months! Next week Waverly starts SECOND grade, Avalon her laaaast year of preschool, Remerie will be just over a week from turning ONE, and I will begin a countdown until our next break! 🙂 Hope you + yours had the best summer ever!!!!
This is SUCH a gorgeous post. I can relate, I also had a tough summer with four kids at home, and parenting that age gap is such a struggle. My big kids (ages 8 and 6) need more structure and activity, while my younger two (4 and 2) need things slower. It is, I suppose, what makes a family great — making concessions for the sake of others, learning to work together as a team.
And also I’m completely with you, I’m counting down to next summer 🙂
Oh thank you so much! And YES — the age gap is so challenging but figuring it out and making it work is what is all about!! You make me feel like (MAYBE!) I could handle four one day.
Let the countdown begin! XO
