Spring Break Stuff

Oh, Monday!  We are slowly coming down from a spring break high over here, it’s been very busy and very fun, which I know other parents can relate to, can make your heart all sorts of full & your body all sorts of exhausted all at the same time.  Waverly had the week off school, which in theory isn’t that big of a deal since she only goes two mornings, but it made the biggest difference in our schedule.  We were able to get out of the house right after Avalon’s nap, which is usually when I have to pick up Waverly from school & rush home to get lunch and some downtime.  We made it to the aquarium, the beach, and daddy even took off work one day for a trip to the children’s museum.
Lots of chaos, getting out of the house with two little ones is seriously no joke (those of you with more than two can go ahead & laugh at me, I’m sure I will laugh at myself one day), but well worth it.  As the girls get older they are interacting and understanding more, it’s just my favorite.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may also have read that we had our first kid-free house overnight since Avalon was born!  The girls had sleepovers with family (two separate houses, it seriously takes a village!), and my husband & I went to a friends wedding.  We woke up Sunday morning (at 7) with hangovers and way too quiet of a house, missing our little ladies like crazy.
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! XO

Sweet babies! Getting out of the house with 2 is definitely no joke – I'm not sure how I'm going to manage with 3 in just a few short months. Eeek!!!!!

Oh I love seeing that sisterly bond! I bet your heart swells every time you see them loving on each other! And I know what you mean that even though it's just two mornings, a week off makes a big deal! We have such a late spring break this year, but we already have a few play dates planned for it!

Spring Break Stuff

Waverly & I are currently back to regularly scheduled programming after an entire (glorious) week off for my spring break.  The good news is that now that it’s halfway through April, it’s totally acceptable to start counting down to my maternity leave & summer off.  I will be leaving school a few weeks before my due date, my sciatica is still totally a thing & worsens after a day at work on my feet, so we thought it would be for the best.  I’m hoping to finish the nursery over the next couple of weeks so once I’m home, I can spend my time resting & getting in some last precious moments with Waverly as an only child.

Keeping it real in toddler town, the major highs from our week together were paired with some lows.  It seems that the second half of Waverly’s two’s are a little more “terrible” than the first, she is as strong-willed as ever right now & it’s safe to say that listening isn’t her strongest asset.

She definitely saves her finest moments for me, I know it’s because that’s when she feels most comfortable (I’m honored, really), but OMG, we have had some moments lately.  I’ll spare you most of the details, other than that morning I asked her not to color on herself only to turn around & see marker across her entire face.  Apparently she drew up & down her legs, then wiped her nose and immediately touched her face.  Or certainly one of my biggest mom fails to date, I was putting new sheets on her bed for naptime while she was in her playroom when she walked in to show me the HOLE (around her belly button) she cut into her new Zara sweatshirt.  Apparently I left the scissors too low (we have our office supplies in a hanging rack on the back of the door), I guess we won’t be passing down that one to baby sister.

It’s a good thing those times are always followed by the happiest ones, Waverly really is nothing short of hilarious right now & she is so incredibly fun to be around.  Our weather was warm for most of the week & we were able to fit in time at the zoo, on walks, & with bubbles.  So many bubbles.

On Thursday of my break, my parents kept Waverly while my husband and I had a kid-free night & a day trip to Ikea!  We missed her (and talked about her the entire time), it was way too quiet, but all in all, a great way to spend some together before we are parents to two!  The drive was about eight hours overall, I ate my way through it & we definitely decided it was well-worth it.  We ended up getting this dresser for the nursery, a raksog cart for Waverly’s room (we moved hers to the nursery because it matched better), & a latt play table for both girls that we plan to hack it the next month or so.  It’s really about time Ikea came to Virginia Beach, I’m jealous of every single one of you who has one within a reasonable driving distance. 😉

Happy Tuesday to you all!
XO

Toddlerhood is such a roller coaster. I can't even keep track these days if we're up or down! Lex skipped terrible twos and has been a complete
Monster since hitting three. And I swear it's worse the older they are– they're just more trouble (like finding scissors! I mean it could have been her hair? BUT STILL!). I can't wait to see the nursery!!

  2. April 14, 2015 / 11:42 am

Oh man, I'm thinking markers and scissors now need to be a "with mommy" activity only lol. I always find it amazing how much they can do in the short time to make a bed! Noah has recently started opening the door to our garage when I'm not in the room! Thankfully our alarm then goes off so I come running. This is why I pee with the door open… I need to see him at all times!

  3. April 14, 2015 / 11:56 am

Oh goodness, I had to laugh about the marker across her face (even tho I'm sure you weren't laughing in the moment). I think sometimes it's almost like a challenge at that age. My mom could tell you some stories about me when I was that age. None that I'm willing to put on the internet tho 😉 lol

  4. April 14, 2015 / 1:11 pm

Ohhh kids, they do and say the darnedest things don't they? I totally think it's right for you to start the countdown, mama! 🙂

  5. April 14, 2015 / 1:13 pm

Oh my goodness, that's a long drive to Ikea! Hopefully it will come to your area sooner rather than later 🙂 The terrible twos are definitely around in our house as well and I can only imagine how much worse its about to get lol! I'll never understand how my daughter can go from the sweetest thing in the world to screaming and crying in two seconds flat. Thankfully, they don't last too long and it's just a phase all kids go through! Good luck with your last few weeks of school 🙂 You must be so excited to start your maternity leave a few weeks early!

Looks like you guys really enjoyed your self!! What a nice trip/day spent with your hubby you always need that once in a while!!! Love it 🙂

  7. April 14, 2015 / 4:30 pm

oh man…we flew through the two's and had been having a fabulous time during the three's…but oh how life has changed. Everything is so dramatic and listening is NOT on Elyse's radar at all. However, it's those sweet moments afterwards that remind me exactly how wonderful being a momma can be!

I always forget we have an IKEA nearby and now I'm needing an ice cream cone. and man! Toddlers.. Rae has been out. to. get. me. She's all about doing things I tell her not to. We're working on time outs here, but every time I say time out she thinks I mean outside and gets so excited so it makes things extra worse 😉

  9. April 14, 2015 / 5:56 pm

Omg I almost died laughing at the Zara hole incident. I know that must have stung a bit but kids will be kids, I guess. Thanks for keeping it real through the less-than-perfect times 🙂

  10. April 14, 2015 / 7:41 pm

Our closest Ikea is like 4 hours away too so its always fun when we get to go there! Brylee decided to color all over herself the other day with markers too-and then massage it in just for good measure. Atleast they were washable markers! http://www.tisourlife.blogspot.com

  11. April 14, 2015 / 7:47 pm

oh gosh, I think my daughter is headed in your daughters footsteps, advice please! She thinks No is a suggestion and usually doesn't follow it, at 19 months I'm scared! Never had this problem with my son. OH gosh marker across the face…not a mom fail, mom success because it made her happy 🙂

  12. April 14, 2015 / 8:00 pm

At least she had good placement with the belly button right? Too funny!!!

I am so lucky to have an ikea so close to us but even so, it's still a trip that doesn't happen very often. My fave thing to get there are frames – you can never have too many!

  13. April 14, 2015 / 8:23 pm

oh my gosh, those mom "fails" are hilarious! I don't think they're fails at all! She seems like a happy little one and testing the limits is always a fun phase I'm sure 🙂 so dang cute! And sounds like you got some great stuff form Ikea!

LOL HER SWEATER! Oh my word. Those are some seriously impressive cutting skills. And really, as a fashion teacher, weren't you kind of secretly proud? 😉

That icee looks unreal good. I might have drooled looking at that picture.

  15. April 15, 2015 / 12:57 am

Oh you and Erin's comments terrify me! Kaitlyn's Terrible Twos seemed to start BEFORE 2 and day to day I wonder how I can handle worse. So I am praying mine will be done and over with it early? Please? lol And oy to the sweater story. But I am impressed by her motor skills she could manage to do that! She sure is a cutie pie! Love the pics!

I mean, I'm impressed that she could cut a hole in her sweater. That must have taken some skill. And, I just love when you tell a toddler to stop doing something and immediately they are all…challenge accepted. At least they are the sweetest things too. Makes up for the rest of the times.

  17. April 15, 2015 / 3:34 am

Can't wait to see the nursery and how you hack the latt table! We bought one for Mason and hacked it as well and love how it turned out!

  18. April 15, 2015 / 9:37 pm

If it weren't for all the toddler ups and downs being a mommy would be so boring. 😉
So excited to see the nursery! I'm currently deep in the throws of planning for Baby Girl, and oh my gosh, girl stuff is so dang cute!

  19. April 16, 2015 / 3:29 am

Looks like you guys had a great week off together, I love all of the photos 🙂 I know what you mean about this age… Scarlett has been testing me, a lot and it is wearing me down!
