Scenes from Our Weekend

First, I would like to give a shout-out to good old mother nature, who has given us the absolute best weather lately.  We are used to pretty seasonal temps in July & then steaming hot Augusts around here, it seem this year it’s the other way around and we are not complaining.  It’s been so nice that it’s almost made me forget that I was dreaming of fall a few weeks ago.  Almost.

We took advantage & spent most of our weekend outside, my little brother turned the big 2-9 so we celebrated with some food and drinks on the beach while watching the sunset.  We don’t usually get out during the evenings much, especially lately, Avalon can get pretty fussy so I don’t like to make it worse by putting her in the car seat (any other moms feel like you turn into a pumpkin when it gets dark?!).  Yet she shocked us all & was happier than ever, and we even stayed way later than we planned, almost 9:00.  We get wild.

My Overalls, Waverly’s Headband
Part of my husband’s birthday present was a day fishing trip with his friend.  Probably lame, but after a long week with both girls on my own, I’m usually desperate for his help by the time the time the weekend hits & like to keep him at arm’s length. 😉  So it was back to the beach for us girls, we met my mom, brother and sister which I was thankful for, especially since Waverly has recently decided that she can swim all on her own.  Apparently floats are for two-year olds, she wants nothing to do with the one we have been using for the last two summers, the one that kept her above water & also kept my sanity intact.  So despite a few major meltdowns because I wouldn’t let her take a couple laps around the ocean on her own (how dare I?), it was a really fun, successful summer day.
Solly Wrap
Other highlights of the weekend include a five-year old birthday complete with a slip-n-slide, a trip to the coffee shop for just me & my computer (something I have been trying to do once a week, just to give myself a little time to unwind, I totally recommend it!), and my favorite, Waverly telling me “Mom, she is just gorgeous!”, about Avalon, maybe 100 times.
And now, it’s Monday.
Sleeper & Sheets
Hope you had a great weekend!

Looks like y'all had a wonderful beach weekend. Happy birthday to your husband, I'm sure he loved the fishing trip. Waverly is so cute in the water, sounds like lil girl needs some swim lessons ASAP so she can swim to the edge of the ocean and back without mama worrying ;)!

So jealous of your amazing weather! Get me out of AZ! It's hotter than hell and I'm OVER it! (I hear that winter makes up for it… I'm just ready to go outside again. It's opposite for us, we are couped up indoors while everyone enjoys summer, and we will be outside loving life while everyone is indoors avoiding winter, ha!) LOVE your beach time! So glad you were there with family to help. I am seriously dying for you over brave little Waverly. I mean, serrrrrrriously!! Time to get that girl in serious swim lessons for just in case… ha ha! Bless your momma heart!!

  4. August 17, 2015 / 3:50 pm

Love the picture of Waverly living it up under the pier! Such a fun girl!

  5. August 17, 2015 / 5:39 pm

How is she possibly this grown up that she can swim without floaties?!!! Wow. So jealous of your beach days and lovely weather. It's about 800 degrees here right now. Bleh. And I agree, she's just gorgeous! 🙂

  6. August 17, 2015 / 6:09 pm

What a great weekend, and yes to the needing husbands on the weekends! I absolutely adore yawning baby pictures, they are just too cute! And oh the "I think I can swim" thing, my almost 2 year old is going through that now…talk about scary!

  7. August 17, 2015 / 7:17 pm

Totally hear you on not getting out in the evenings anymore. The newborn phase is officially over lol.

    Great pictures as always!!

Oh, and I think I need to sign up for a few solo coffe shop hours myself 🙂

  8. August 17, 2015 / 9:03 pm

Love all your beautiful beach photos. Waverly always looks so full of joy there!

  9. August 18, 2015 / 12:50 am

I feel the same way about Mondays as Avalon does. "yaaaaawn!" haha

  10. August 18, 2015 / 2:25 am

I am so inspired by your motivation to get out with your computer. I need that!!! Otherwise, I find myself up til midnight every night, trying to crank out blog posts. Ugh. These pictures are gorgeous (as usual!) Always love updates on your sweet fam bam!:)

  11. August 18, 2015 / 9:54 am

What a perfectly fun weekend of beaching! It doesn't get much better than little toes in the sand. Waverly is getting so brave to want to tackle the ocean with no floaties.
Loving the idea of slipping away to a coffee shop for a few hours. I might have to see if I can't set up an arrangement like that.

  12. August 18, 2015 / 2:02 pm

oooh a coffee/laptop break? Sounds like just the ticket to keeping sanity.
    Enjoy the lovely beach weather!

  13. August 18, 2015 / 3:01 pm

Perfect family beach pics! Is there anything better than family and beach time?

  14. August 18, 2015 / 7:27 pm

So fun! The girls keep getting more and more gorgeous! (PS We don't usually go anywhere after 5, unless it's for a walk. Restaurants are out of the picture for a hot second and anywhere we can't move her is crossed off the list, too.) xoxo

  15. August 18, 2015 / 7:44 pm

No float? I would die. I'm glad you had your family there to help you with the new master swimmer 😉 Even when Emerson was swimming with a float on, I still watched him like a hawk. I hope he's content to wear one of those of the next twenty years. ha. So glad you were able to enjoy some time at the beach though! And a coffee date with yourself? Very nice!

  16. August 19, 2015 / 12:50 am

That picture of you guys under the bridge is SO cute! And Waverly splashing too… so so cute!

  17. August 19, 2015 / 3:11 am

Sounds like a great weekend! And that last pic is priceless!

Scenes from Our Weekend

Happy Monday, hope you all had a wonderful weekend & are having a great start to the week!  Our first weekend of a family of four was a busy one, which seemed fitting since that just seems to be life these days. 🙂  Waverly had her first dance recital, I had been looking forward to it since she started dance months ago & thought the timing of it was perfect, with so much going on, she deserved a day all about her!  I had to miss the dress rehearsal the weekend before since I was in the hospital, yet luckily in all the craziness, my mom & sister managed to get her there, dressed in her costume, which got her completely excited for the real thing.

We got up early the day of her recital to take a family trip to Target for her to pick out her own red lipstick & a prize for after her dance was done (she chose Frozen & Elsa band-aids, but was definitely more excited about the band-aids), and then headed home to do her hair, make-up, & put on her glittery costume.
Basically all of my girl mama dreams come true.

I was a little nervous about how she would do in the show, she is much younger than the other girls in her class, some of them are even five, but ultimately I was so incredibly proud of her.  She walked right out on stage & did (most) of the moves for both dances, plus she stayed backstage the entire time & I didn’t even get an emergency “come get your kid” call from one of the stage moms. 😉  I am so glad I put her in dance, it really has helped her become more independent & though it’s a little bittersweet that she is old enough for all of this, my heart could really have burst while watching her.

We spent the rest of our weekend at the pool trying to stay cool, we took the girls to my grandparents so that Waverly could swim while Avalon slept & ate inside in the AC.  So far, our littlest lady is such a good sleeper, we really can’t believe it since Waverly never did this, even in her first couple of weeks.  We have yet to find a place she doesn’t love to rest & just keep reminding ourselves to enjoy this time while it lasts. 🙂
Momaroo
And just like that, it’s Monday & daddy is back to work (which seems to feel a little more painful now that we have two).  My mom & I took the girls for their first trip to the mall this morning, it took a couple hours for me to get all three of us out the door to meet her, but overall, it was a win! 🙂  Waverly did so well & kept peeking her little face in the stroller to tell Avalon, “we are girlfriends forever, you are just like me”.
Seriously, they slay me.

Happy week ahead!

Scenes from Our Weekend

Just in case you were wondering, it’s still raining in Virginia Beach.  I’m pretty sure this is the sixth day in a row.  The good news is that we now live on waterfront property.  And despite the weather, we had a pretty memorable FALL weekend.

Vest
I really am convinced that there is nothing better in life than experiencing these first holiday moments with your child.  I really couldn’t contain my excitement driving to the patch, I just knew my sweet nature lover would in pumpkin paradise.  She was.

Seriously, nothing makes me happier than moments like these.  Is it weird that I really do wish this was our backyard?  Or at the very least, would like to go back to visit every weekend until Halloween … and plan to!
I definitely don’t think Waverly Maye would mind, she made it clear that she really wanted to lay down & sleep with the pumpkins.

My sweet pumpkin, I really can’t blame her. I wanted to bring them all home, too!
Like mother, like daughter. 🙂

The rest of our weekend was spent indoors.  We managed to get in as many fall activities as possible, all which were perfectly friendly for the inside while mother nature was causing complete craziness around us.  As much as I hate the rain, it does create a cozy atmosphere for some quality family time.  We ate pumpkin pancakes & pumpkin cookies.  We made a washi tape Halloween garland.  And attempted making this candy corn pizza.
I’ll spare you the picture of how it came out, delicious but totally not what i envisioned.  It’s the thought that counts?

And we did it all while rocking our favorite holiday-friendly PJs, of course.

And YES, I must point out that this crazy toddler sat still long enough to glitter her very first pumpkin!  I decided to go for it & although it ended up a hot mess of glitter & glue, it was worth it.
For me, at least.  Don’t ask my husband, I’m hoping we are not still finding specks of glitter next year at this time when I want to try again.

PJs

We hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend!
Can you believe it is already HALFWAY through October?  Thoughts of my toddler trick or treating are officially dancing in my HALLOWEEN head!
XOXO
