One Year & Beyond: Making Time for Blogging

First things first, the biggest thank you to so many inspiring ladies who make this blogging community the amazing place that it is.  The reason that I started this blog was for Waverly Maye to be able to look back on her life as a little girl & that has never changed, I am so excited for her to read this one day (she better!), & that definitely remains my priority.  Yet since then, it really has become so much more.  I have made some amazing relationships & find myself constantly inspired by all of you.  Your support, encouragement & the way you have embraced Waverly & I really means so much.  So thank you. 🙂
With that being said, I’m totally under the belief that no matter your situation, there is just not enough time in the day, ever.  My husband & I always laugh about the fact that when you were little, 30 minutes seemed like an eternity & now, it feels like you blink & it’s over.  Most days I struggle to find the time to be as productive as I want to be as a mom, a wife, & a teacher (not to mention friend, sister, daughter, grandaughter, aunt … ), so obviously “me” moments are few & far between.  Yet ultimately, such is life, & I know one day when my kids are grown I will desperately want this time back.
In terms of blogging, I definitely view it as an “extra”, a hobby that I truly enjoy, & also, that I will feel lucky to have one day.  From day one, I’ve had a golden rule that I will never blog while Waverly is awake & at the beginning of this year, also made the resolution to make the biggest attempt to keep all technology away when I am with her, too.  For the most part, it works & I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Also, if you have met Waverly, you know she wouldn’t have it any other way, either – she is as high maintenance as they come & pretty much takes my full attention all of the time.
Love her! 🙂
SO when do I blog?!  I write most of my posts at night sitting in bed while I watch reality tv (& eat ice cream), it’s totally my “me” time & I look forward to it.  The biggest challenge there is staying awake at night, I always struggle with the decision between getting sleep or relaxing, which is more important?! 😉  I read other blogs in the morning when I am getting ready or drying my hair, this was much easier when I was working & I’m hoping I can keep up just as much this summer.  As far as replying to comments (which is important to me), I definitely found that easier when I was at work & at a computer throughout the day.  We are three days into summer & I have already found it challenging to keep up with my in-box, I absolutely love staying at home but it definitely keeps me busy, just in a different kind of way.
Bottom line, I make it work while I can but I really do try to keep it something that is fun & that I enjoy.  I can’t say it enough, we really are so thankful for all of your support, for your positive comments & feedback, & for my need to post unlimited pictures of my girl. XO

I can TOTALLY relate!!!! I've only been blogging a few short months but already struggle to find the time to do it. Having said that, it's totally "me" time and I really enjoy it. There must be some way we can find more hours in a day… no?

I am right there with you, at the end of the day I like to blog. While the kids and my husband are sleeping it is a little alone time to just jot down things I want to remember. And totally agree, the blogging community is like no other!

I completely agree! I blog when London, my son, goes to bed or at work during the day. I find it hard to comment, reply to comments and read all the blogs I want to some days! This week it's CRAZY at work so I have 49 unread blogs… eeek! I try and be technology free as much as possible when I'm around London too!

Glad we are all on the same page, it's hard right?! Yet worth it!! 🙂

I'm totally with you, friend. There just isn't enough hours in the day!

I have the same feelings about blogging. I try to not use the computer or my phone when O is awake. I usually blog during nap time or at night when he is asleep, but a lit of the time I'm to tired to do that either…so I just don't. I see blogging as a hobby too, so it often comes 2nd, 3rd or 4th to whatever else needs to happen irl!

I couldn't agree more! Blogging to me is totally my "me" time… To unwind, read, and jot down anything and everything on my mind. I only blog during nap and at night after Charli goes to sleep and thankfully it really works! Now adding another little human to the mix that will need more attention… We will see what I can manage! 😉 hahaha

Totally agree on blogging, time, everything!! There has got to be a way to get more hours in the day because 24 just isn't enough! xo

Finding the time to blog is definitely challenging. I thought it would be a piece of cake once I became a stay at home mom, but it's been harder now than it ever was while I was working, so I totally understand! I end up on the computer late into the night most nights because it's the only time I can seem to spare away from my hubby or the baby!

Love this and you girls! I have the same blogging rules, love laying in bed and writing! 🙂 Enjoy your Summer vacay!!! xo

We're high maintenance over here too haha! It's considered unacceptable for me to have my computer out and Aislynn not get to play on it!

She is too cute. Love that floral headband.

I can totally understand having a harder time blogging when you are at home! At work, (where I blog) I get interrupted, but, I don't feel like I am taking time away from my family. I think you are doing great!!

I have the same blogging "rules." I also started blogging for the same reasons, to document my children's lives. I'm not quite as popular as you 😉 but I still love doing it. I'm a huge planner and love taking creative photos, so documenting everything on my blog has been wonderful for me. There's nothing like being home for the summer though, being a teacher is the best, right?!

Aw, you are too sweet!!! You are doing a great job documenting & I think our kids will love this one day!!!! 🙂

Excellent post! I feel the same way about blogging. It's hard to keep up, but definitely worth it. This blogging community of moms is so amazing and I'm so glad to be a part of it!

So many of your comments really resonate with me! I came home today and said to my mom (she watches my daughter on Fridays) it's so hard being a mom! Today I stopped to buy sneakers and get a manicure on my way home from work and the whole time I'm thinkng about getting home to Molly. I feel like even when I am having some "me" time I can't fully relax because my mind is elsewhere. It's such a struggle sometimes to balance it all! Thanks for making me feel like I'm not alone!

Oh girl, I have SO been there!!!! Many, many times! Our little ones are lucky to have us! XO

  16. June 21, 2014 / 4:45 am

I always blog at night or during nap time. Lately it's been so hard to keep up I have so many unfinished posts, but I always find the time to read your blog! haha I'm a little obsessed! xoxo

  17. June 22, 2014 / 1:12 pm

Blog time is reserved for naps and bedtime over here, too! I've also made it a rule to leave the blog and blog world on the weekends. It's the only time our little family is together for more than a few hours, and I want each of those precious moments to be as full and undistracted as possible.

I wish I could blog and watch tv at the same time! I end up not being able to pay attention to either one when I attempt it 🙁
I love replying to comments and before I had Mia, I was the queen of it! Now it's the last thing on my list to happen, so I pretty much never get to that part. I definitely do it when asked a direct question or when I'm having a conversation with someone, but I just can't get to all the emails anymore 🙁 I miss that part but I'd rather read and comment on blogs than never make it past my inbox.
Juggling everything is so tricky! I wish I could do it all!
