New Years Eve & Day

Each year, as soon as Christmas ends & the holiday-ending sadness begins, I try to mend my broken heart by planning the most elaborate New Years possible.  You know the ones, complete with lots of champagne, confetti & the dress with more sequins than you have worn the whole year combined.

This year, it didn’t take long for either my husband or myself to agree that the only thing we wanted to do was hang with Waverly Maye.

Headband & Gap Dress (No Longer Available)
Even on both the New Years I was pregnant & had a five-month old, we still managed to make it out of the house.  Yet after such an exciting Christmas with Waverly, the thought of another magical day with her was so much better than anything else.  We knew she wouldn’t quite understand yet, but the holiday-loving mom in me knew we could bring a little “sparkle” to our normal night-time routine.

They don’t sell sparklers where we live & we knew this was the perfect night to break some out, so a couple of weeks ago we took a little road trip to stock up.  I honestly was more into them than Waverly, which was a little reassuring since we don’t really want her to exactly love fire just yet. 🙂

My hubby made the best dinner, I added some themed popcorn & cupcakes, & to make sure Waverly was a part of our countdown, we had our own fake one at 7:30.  🙂

Don’t mind the bottle, random shoe or “Happy Birthday” tiaras.  Turns out 30 minutes past Waverly’s bedtime a week after celebrating Christmas had her acting a little crazy.  It was all we could do to keep her in good spirits, I’m sure you understand. 🙂  As for the hats, I forgot to get New Years ones & it was the next best thing.  Good thing she can’t read just yet.

On New Years Day, we started off with a festive little breakfast followed by the rest of the day with close friends & family.

Headband & Old Navy Jacket (No Longer Available)
It’s amazing how much more you take advantage of your time when you don’t spend your NYE hanging out all long night (still not sure how I did that for so many years … ).

I’m sure one day we will decide to go out & be adults again, but for now we are completely content where we are at.  It really brings me to my word of the year, “present”.  I really am aiming to be in the moment this year & this was a great way to kick if off.  Although I am having so much fun with Waverly right now that I wish she would stay this age forever, I do know that she won’t.  So I am going to make sure I take advantage of each & every precious moment, I’m damn sure not going to miss out.

We hope everyone had the best first weekend in 2014 & that you are also being “present” in your own lives.  Everything is always easier said than done, but the start of the year is always a great time to be reminded of things like these.
XO

Adorable! I love how festive you made it for your little munchkin. What a blessed little girl to have her parents rather spend time with her than have "adult time"! Plus I LOVE her gold leggings and your matching stripped gold shirt 🙂

I love all the little extra special things you did for NYE with Waverly! I was a little bummed it was the only day we could drive back to FL from our trip, so we did a whole bunch of nothing special at all. Next year, sparkles for sure! Loving the gold too!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have major hair envy over here…your locks are gorgeous!
Love how you spent your New Years…we've always stayed really low-key for that holiday, as neither one of us are drinkers (would you believe I'm allergic to alcohol? I know…the horror! Bahaha) and because of that have never been into big party scenes. We've always been the 2 old farts who hang at home for New Years but and that's just fine with us!

We always spend New Year's at home with our girls, very low key. Usually because the Christmas holiday has a running all over the place and we just want to hang out at home. But, it's perfect!! Maybe when our girls are old enough to have NYE parties of their own, my husband and I will join!
