We recently had our first family day at the beach in 2014, a visit I have been so excited for & dreaming of all winter long!! One of our favorite parts of living in VB is definitely the oceanfront, we both grew up here so it’s hard for us to imagine anything different. We want the same thing for Waverly & just know she is going to love it just as much as we do. Last summer she was still a little small (& a little more interested in eating the sand than putting her toes in it), so we didn’t spend as much time there as usual. I’m thinking this may just be her year.
It was still a little cold for our bathing suits, which was probably a good thing since I’m not really ready to debut the bikini body & also, we didn’t have to worry about piling on the sunscreen (pale girl problems, sorry Waverly). It was a perfect start to the season though, Waverly was obsessed with the “sila” & wouldn’t take her eyes off of it. Such a great family day, I can’t wait for many more soon!

ο»Ώο»ΏBesides lounging at the beach, also on the agenda for this summer is to have one little lady potty-trained! π Waverly has been very, very interested in “diapa’s” for quite a while now. Right around the time she hit 18 months, she started repeating “diapa” everytime she needed to go, even sometimes pulling at it or her pants when she needed to be changed. Our pediatrician told us to capitalize on it, that for some kids there is a window right around that time that you can catch. I was definitely all about it (leaving diapers behind is one milestone I won’t be emotional about), but after researching some, decided it was best to start when the weather was warmer & also, when I was on summer break so that we could be more consistent.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, we went ahead & bought a potty chair since I figured it wouldn’t hurt to start the process. Waverly was actually really intrigued by it, she started wearing it as an accesory on top of her head, as a spot for her favorite toys, & many days, it stays in the living room with us. Just in case she all of the sudden feels the need to use it (which hasn’t happened yet).

So the other day I really thought we had made some major strides. Waverly kept sitting on the potty & wouldn’t let it out of her sight. Later when we were in the bath, she kept saying “uh-oh” & when I asked her if she needed to use the potty, she responded with the most confident “yes”. I was so excited, I picked her right up from the bath & ran downstairs to the potty (still in the middle of the living room). She sat there, but still wouldn’t go & I kept thinking that she just hadn’t really grasped it yet, that she didn’t quite understand what it was meant for. I definitely find that she learns best by watching what we do & know she always is, so I did it. I really don’t know what came over me, but I was that mom (there has been another one, right?!), that kneeled down & peed in her daughter’s potty. To say the least, Waverly was shocked & amazed. After staring at me for a few seconds, she yelled “EW!!”, one of the many new words she has picked up recently.
I will spare you a picture of me on the potty & if you are wondering, will let you know if my desperate attempt has any positive results soon. So far, Waverly clearly remembers my move since she keeps pointing to her potty chair & saying “mama”, she is really disapointed when I won’t give a follow-up performance. I definitely feel like I did my part & one time was enough. Now it’s her turn, right?! π

Hope you are having a great week! π
That's some major mama points!! Hope it worked I'm sure it left an impression on her!
omg hahahaha I am sitting here cracking up. Go, you, with your bad peeing self π Love those gorgeous pics of you two on the beach <3
Good for you showing her what it's for! My luck is I'd knock it over and make a huge mess lol. I have heard it's a good idea to bring it in the bathroom with you and have them sit on it while they watch you go. And it sounds weird but show them what's in the toilet before you flush so they know it's the same as them. I also read in the summer to let them go diaper less and just play outside or in the bathtub where the mess won't be a big deal. Good luck!
Oh my goodness you are one brave mama for sharing that story! Cheers to you!!!
Love your dresses! Your pics always make me smile!
The pictures of you on the beach are so sweet! Love them!
Also, glad I am not the only crazy mama beginning to attempt potty training! π
The pictures of your guys on the beach are so sweet! So looks a little hesitant at first (probably because its cold) but then looks as happy as can be to stand in the sand!
So funny!! Be sure to let us know if it works because I am not beyond peeing in it too if that's what it takes! π And I'm super jealous that you guys live on the beach. It's a good 10-14 hour drive for us depending on which direction we go.
YOU. DID. NOT. no really. i'm dying laughing. and i can promise promise promise they'll "get" it even without the demonstration. but this is WAY too funny!!
Haha oh my gosh! I hope you all had a good giggle about mom potty training π Fingers crossed that it goes well!
"EW!!"….OMG, I laughed so hard! But, hey, a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do, right?! I love your dedication. Great post π
Haha, thanks!!!! Can't believe I did that! π
Hahaha! Love this story!! There's no better way to show them how to do something then to just do it yourself! Lol – I might have to take a note on this one π

Ha, thanks for understanding my craziness! I swear I never would have done anything like that before becoming a mom, what kids will do to ya! π
Loveee the beach pictures! I remember the ones you shared last year….can't believe how grown up she is compared to back then! π Potty training is about to happen here, too. Sadie is ready (or seems to be). I'm picking up a few shifts at the hospital between this weekend and next, so I'm planning to start in June, probably right after her b-day. We have the same potty chair…I picked it up months ago but I'm also going to get the one Erin mentioned in Lex's potty training post because I want her to be able to sit on the regular "potty" too. And here's a fist pump for peeing in that tiny little thing for your girl! Bahahahaha
I know, it is crazy to look at those pics now! Yay for Sadie potty training, too! We are going for June as the official start date too, everything I read also said warm weather is best! I need to look into the other potty, too! π
Peeing in the kiddie potty. Best story I've ever read.
I'm so jealous of all you beach dwellers. We're soooo far away from a beach. We're as far into the center of the country as you can get lol.
Hahaha! Love it! First, so glad you could make it out to the beach, yay! Second, we too thought around 18 months we might have hit the "window" like our Pediatrician said but Charli was definitely not ready, even though it seemed like she was interested. She loved playing with it and wanting her toys to go in there but I would tell her no, ewww so she slowly learned that was not a "place for toys. I keep her potty in our bathroom and she sits on it every time I go potty and she will say "bye bye pee pee" and shut the lid, haha! We aren't pushing it though. It will happen when it is time. But I agree with the Summer because of less clothes and you will be home with her! Good luck! π
That's too funny!! I love your honesty. The things kids make us do. π We are getting ready to potty train Austin and I'm nervous to potty train a boy. argh!
Your beach pictures are gorgeous. It looks a perfect perfect beach trip.
Oh, man! You had be cracking up with your potty chair story! Love the beach pictures! It must be so nice to live so close! π

Love the pictures from the beach! Your dress is so pretty! Also I am dying over the potty story!!! Ha ha hahahaha I can totally see myself doing that in the moment and then being all "what the hell did I just do". Sad I couldn't link up this week! I'll be back next week though π xo
Glad you can imagine being that crazy – I was seriously shocked at myslef, haha! π Hope you have a great day, looking forward to having you back!
Ahahah! OMG – that is an AWESOME story! And I know K would be so insistent and would want me to do it over and over again. So I'll take this as a lesson learned. lol! We got that same potty for her birthday, but she's only interested in taking the bucket out and playing with it too. Gotta work up to the 18 month mark and hope we can catch that window period!
Those beach pictures are SO happy! I think it will be your summer with Waverly! Love your dress!

You just made me laugh harder than I've laughed in a long time. PLEASE update as to if your performance worked. I'm planning to start trying to train Little Lee in 2 weeks and might resort to this move if it works π
