It’s the Little Things: Week Four

To say we are currently over winter & the bitter cold is certainly an understatement.  I’m not sure if it’s the random two snowstorms, make-up school days or the toddler who NEEDS to be on the move … but we are oh so ready for spring!!  Like the if it doesn’t warm up soon we may just move to California kind of ready.  Really, we considered it over Valentines dinner. 😉

To cure our major cabin fever, I have been on the hunt for fun indoor activities to do with Waverly Maye.  She really is an outdoor girl & would rather play outside all day long in any kind of weather, but as cold as its been, I’ve gotta draw the line somewhere (you know, be the adult & smart one in the situation, still so weird!).  So we have done it all … finger painting, flash cards, endless puzzles, play time in the jewelry box & lots of baking.  On a side note, I don’t seem to have passed on my love of crafts to Waverly, she tried to eat the paint on our finger painting day & despite lots of attempts at coloring, girlfriend just doesn’t have any attention span for that.

And for last week’s get out of the house but still stay inside activity, my husband & I took Waverly for a frozen yogurt date.  Who says ice cream is only for summer?!!

Clearly not Waverly Maye.
We honestly have been limiting eating out lately, mainly because Waverly is not the biggest fan of the high chair.  Even if I come equipped with snacks, drinks & all of her favorite toys, she would rather run the restaurant like a mad woman.  Yes … we have totally been that couple with the crazy kid, more times than I would like to admit!  🙂

But this date was different, I’m pretty sure Waverly was on a sugar high before she was even halfway done.  She could not stop giggling, pretty much uncontrollably, & I’m pretty sure she would have sat in that seat all day long.  My husband & I just watched her with the biggest smiles on our faces, truly in awe of our little lady.  She really could have bursted from joy at any point, it was pretty much the cutest thing ever.  As a mom, I felt proud that Waverly is SO happy, which despite any hard times, is really what matters most.  It was one of those moments with the three of us that screamed “little things”, an ordinary activity urned into a memory that I don’t think I will ever forget.

As for now, we are back to hanging inside desperately waiting for the temps to warm up .  Tell me this face doesn’t say … mom, are we ever going to go outside again?!  Either that or … so when are we going back to that ice cream place!  Whatever the case, I’ve been seeing it a lot lately.

I had a similar frozen yogurt date with Sadie over the summer…it was just the 2 of us though. We had ourselves what I consider to be our first "real" girls day…we went out and did some shopping and both had a great time and then ended it at our favorite frozen yogurt joint. She was right around 12 months then and sat in a chair next to me like she was 10 years old and happily scooped her own bites of yogurt out of the cup we were sharing. I remember sitting there just looking at her and being so proud of the little lady she was turning into, but also tearing up a bit inside over the fact that she was growing up so quickly….it's one of those moments I'll never forget! And I totally feel ya on the cabin fever 'biness…thank the sweet Lord we're having 70+ degree temps this week and have been able to soak up some sunshine because we were going batshit crazy being locked up indoors!

I'm telling you, SoCal weather is the best! I seriously don't know what we would do if we couldn't be outside.
The froyo looks like a great alternative if you can't be running amuck outdoors!

I swear that Waverly & Liam are the same kid! Liam is not a huge fan of sitting, ever…so restaurants are no different. But boy does that kid love himself some fro-yo! What a fun little date for your family! And that last picture of Waverly is just killing me! 🙂

Such a cutie! I can't get A to touch frozen yogurt or ice cream…such a bummer! But the not going out/no high chair/crazy baby thing–100% right there with you, lady! It doesn't help that this winter is making them even more crazy…and us 😉 But soon enough it will be time for sunshine and dresses!

Have a great rest of your week!

I totally relate to not going out to eat. It's just easier to takeout.

We have MAJOR spring fever over here too—it can't come soon enough!!!!

I've been wanting to take mine to get some FroYo (especially since one of our local spots started using almond milk–her drink of choice), but germs, schedules, etc keep getting in the way! Highly motivated after seeing Waverly's excitement!!

Waverly Maye is definitely a girl after my own heart – ice cream is definitely for any time of the year:) Her precious little grins in the pictures above are the best thing ever!:)

Wishing warmth and sunshine your way!! Oh, and I think ice cream tastes better in the winter. He he! Love those pictures of her eating the ice cream.

Why do I feel like we have the same child? I am constantly trying to incorporate fun crafts but she either tries to eat it or fling it across the room lol. I am also in talks to convince my hubby to move to Cali! These long cold months are really hard with the little ones! It would be so nice to be able to get out of the house! Looks like you had such a fun day! We have to start getting creative to save our sanity 🙂

Even in California we get cabin fever sometimes! 😉 Have you tried using kitchen utensils & gadgets as toys with your girl? Raegan is obsessed with putting tiny things into little compartments so she loves playing with a muffin tin & a bunch of little things (we use cherrios & other small snack foods. Then she snacks while she sorts!), Rae also love loves playing with spatulas, measuring cups & pots! Buys me like 20 minutes when I need her distracted 😉 We don't do this every day, so when we do, it keeps her busy & entertained for a while.
Love the photos at the yogurt shop! What a fun little family date!

She is such a doll!! We have stopped eating out lately too bc the girls will not sit still!! They both want to run and we end up shoveling good in as fast as we can to get the heck out of there haha! Hopefully it gets easier!! Ice cream though is always a win!! So cute!!

    Fun giveaway!

And we're the same – trying to entertain quadruplets indoors every day while it's been rainy and cold can be frustrating. We finally got to do a walk in the strollers yesterday and before that we ventured out for lunch at a local Mexican restaurant.

  19. February 19, 2014 / 5:47 pm

Oh my goodness, she is too stinkin cute…and she CLEARLY loved the frozen yogurt!! That smile is to-die-for!!!!

I AM SO OVER THE SNOW. We just another 8" last night and are supposed to get 6" more tomorrow…I want the beach and flip flops and a cold beer!!

  20. February 19, 2014 / 6:11 pm

Oh my word she is so cute! Nothing better than some good 'ol froyo…Xx.

  21. February 19, 2014 / 8:12 pm

She is so cute. I love reading your post. I have a daughter that is just a few months younger and love to get ideas for things to do with her. I also love all the outfits!!

  22. February 19, 2014 / 8:17 pm

I'm pretty sure Waverly & Arden are cut from the same mold 🙂 High chairs, strollers, car seats…no thanks! HA! But I love these pictures and I'm a firm believer that it's never too cold for froyo! 😉

  23. February 19, 2014 / 8:58 pm

Thanks for hosting the giveaway! Really cute stuff.

We have similar "little things" posts today! Mine was about eating at Panera yesterday and how stinking cute she was with a cup. 🙂 Frozen yogurt dates are THE BEST. That's one of my favorite things to do with my little miss! Rain or shine, or snow or shine I should say…there's always a good time for froyo!

  25. February 20, 2014 / 9:44 pm

    I love this idea!!!

  26. February 21, 2014 / 4:14 am

That is super cute that she just kept giggling! I definitely want to do a little froyo/ice cream date with Aria sometime, maybe in honor of spring or something fun. Clearly it is a big hit =)
