It’s The Little Things: Fingerpaint Fun

You may remember our first girls afternoon with fingerpaint, long story short, it was a total hot mess.  Like even more of a hot mess than fingerpaint with a toddler would normally be, & obviously, that’s really saying something.  So I definitely felt it was best to spend some time apart for a little while …

Yet the other day we desperately needed an activity that would last that after-nap before daddy gets home time (do you ever find that one challenging?!).  So I thought we would give it another try.  I recently ordered this oil cloth off Amazon to use for art projects, because it’s super cute but even more so because I thought that would help save some sanity during these kinds of activities.  Waverly is a lot of things, but an arts & crafts talent – (so far anyways), she is not. 😉

Everything started out well, Waverly does know her colors for the most part so it was a great opportunity to practice those!  Naturally though, her interest in the paper lasted about 2.5 seconds.  Then it was on to painting her legs, tummy, face & finally, giving up on the whole finger part of it only to use her feet. 🙂

Thankfully, I managed to steer clear of her painting me or eating the paint, plus I was able to get her in the bath before our house was remodeled in the primary colors.  A total win in my book!

Waverly has asked about it a few times since (which actually makes me very happy!), so we pulled everything back out yesterday afternoon to paint a picture for her daddy’s 32nd birthday!  This time we went outside on our front lawn, I seriously can only imagine what our neighbors think of our shenanigans.  Waverly was running naked within two minutes, somehow already covered in paint from head to toe.
Such sweet summer memories. 🙂

In other news, we really have had the best time celebrating Joe’s birthday this week!  Waverly is all about birthdays now, she was so excited to sneak out to get him donuts in the morning & to help bake cupcakes to bring him at work.  Probably because that meant she got to join in on the fun & eat all the sweets, too!

We hope you are having the best week, see this post if you need a reminder on how to link-up with us!  Also, don’t forget that you can share pictures on instagram with the hash tag #littlethingslinkup.

Love this! Somehow Sadie always ends up in a diaper with 95% of her body covered in paint every time we break out any kind of paints besides watercolors! And that oil cloth is amazing…we need! Thanks for sharing! Xoxo

I recently bought that same paint. Did it stain anything? It's supposed to come out of of everything.

Thanks for the oil cloth link! I saw something similar to this on Pinterest and you reminded me I needed to buy it for the playroom. I can't tell you how many times we've kinda stained the carpet with arts and crafts supplies.

Her face just kills me every time!

We have a halloween table sort of like that, easy to wipe down that I use…although it's black with pumpkins so it makes it hard to see where the paint is. Seems like painting always goes down the they paint themselves route, but they love it and as long as they don't paint the house, I'm okay with that. 🙂

Waverly is the cutest! That painting session looks like it was a blast! We'll definitely be stealing the idea. And I love the mat. Too cute! 🙂 Her cupcake face though is quite possibly the cutest.

How brave you are! I haven't attempted any painting activities yet…pretty sure Ez would just eat the paint anyway. Glad to hear Waverly is slowly embracing her inner artist. The pics of her covered in paint are adorable (and I'm sure your neighbors think so too).

Love the cloth and that sweet girl! LG just got Crayola Color Wonder paint {as a gift at her brother's baby shower!} and it is the best! No mess!

Our arts and crafts projects always end in an epc fail. So, we haven't done any in a long time. Perhaps an oil cloth (and a bit more patience on my part) is just what we need.

Oh my gosh, I'm kind of ashamed to say that I've never tried finger painting with Mia! She is so obsessed with coloring these days that I know she would love it!! It's going to be messy, but I've got to get on it and try this activity with her!
I wish Mia and Waverly (and us, duh!) could have play dates!!

Such a good idea and you could totally frame one of those 2.5 seconds worth of art paper! (haha) love it! 🙂 xoxo

She loves it! I agree that the post nap, pre-daddy home time is the most challenging part of the day! But somehow I always survive! 🙂
