It’s The Little Things: Books & Babes

I am so excited to be back for the link-up this week!  I was thinking about the fact that we have been rolling with this weekly since February the other day, that makes my heart so happy. 🙂  Thanks again to all of you for your support, participation, & of course, for appreciating the “little things” like we do.  It really means so much to Jess & I both.

If you have read my blog much or know Waverly Maye personally, you know that she is not much of a “sit still” kind of girl.  She is as active as they come, I am sure of it, my experience at kids classes & around other toddlers in general tells me so.  My parents (who have four kids) & grandparents (who have two plus ten grandchildren) say has more energy than any of us ever did. ðŸ˜‰

Yet my girl has always had a love of books, right now more than ever, & if anything can get her to sit still, it’s reading.  The sweetest, it melts my heart every time.

Headband
I still read to Waverly each night, we sit on the recliner in her room before bed & it really is one of my favorite times of the day with her.  She also asks for a book when I lay her down & as soon as I walk out of the room, she reads to her babies until she falls asleep & most mornings does the same thing.  She also LOVES reading to our dog, she asks him to sit in the playroom with her so “I read to you, Gogger!”.  Lately it is the biggest reality check on how smart she really is, she can “read” most of the our favorites herself, saying the exact same lines that I have been reciting to her for months through most every page.  There isn’t much I love more than hearing her little voice say the words I have been going through with her since she was a little babe.  I can’t believe how well she had been listening all that time. 🙂

Some of Waverly’s current favorite books are “Brown Bear, Brown Bear“, “I Love You Through and Through“, & the “Three Little Pigs“.  I just got her “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” last week, it’s quickly turning into a nightly read, it’s great for teaching the letters of the alphabet!  We still are really big on board books, touch & feel books, plus anything with bright colors.  We recently got this bookshelf for Waverly’s birthday for her big girl room, the brown one was on sale so we bought it then painted it white.  It’s perfect for her to get the books on her own.
We also did a Pinterest project for the books in her playroom, these gutters turned into really cheap shelves that she can also reach!!  I’ve already added a few Halloween books for the fall, I have been trying to buy a new one each year with each holiday.  Spending money on books doesn’t make me feel as guilty, I know we can use them for years to come & most are gender-neutral. 😉

I am always open to new book ideas or suggestions, do you guys have any favorites?!  I hope you all are having the best week, see this post if you need a reminder on how to link-up.

I'm so happy to hear little W is a reader…I grew up loving to read and get a bit giddy when Cruz begs to read me a book! And those book shelves made from a gutter??? Genius!

Oh how nice that she will sit for books though! Cute that she likes to read when she wakes up too :). We grew up reading so many books with my mom. They say the best way to help your child learn to read is to just read to them. I was an early reader and I wonder if it's because my mom would read to us literally until we fell asleep. I really think I should read to Noah more on a daily basis!

Do you have "It's a Good Thing You're Not an Octopus" by Julie Markes or any of the Duck and Goose books by Tad Hill (There are Duck and Goose books for every major holiday. "Duck and Goose Find a Pumpkin" would be perfect this time of year!)? These are just a few of the books that are loved and constantly in our nightly rotations.

Liam loves books too, and I love he likes to get all cozy with me under a blanket and read, read, read! Our current favorites are: Skippyjon Jones & The Napping House. He is starting to enjoy longer books, but ones that still have great pictures. I love how they hold his attention!

I love Waverly's yellow dress! So pretty 🙂 Scarlett loves books too, we will always say yes to buying books 🙂

She looks so sweet sitting there with her books! Hopefully she will always love books – we already know that Waverly is one smart cookie, and being a reader will make her even smarter:) So glad the link up is back today. I realized that my post today would fit in perfectly, so yay for linking up:) Happy Wednesday!

Oh, we love books at our house! Waverly is just getting too big and beautiful. Can they just be little forever? I am always on the lookout for new books, too. Your collection has a few that I think we need to add to ours. 🙂

And I failed to mention, you, my dear, are one of the 8 inspirational bloggers I nominated in my post that I shared. I love your blog and you inspire me all the time. Just thought you should know. 😉

We LOVE books at our house and have an entire bookshelf full of them already! Board books, noise books, flap books, big picture books…we LOVE them all! And I'm with you, I don't feel nearly as guilty buying a new book as a new toy!

I hear ya on the "not sit still" kinda kid!! When Cam loves a book, though, he sits still for the whole thing. I have come to LOVE our reading time together! And, I love the gutter idea…I have seen the IKEA shelves, but might try this, too!! Have you heard of Circus Ship? The illustrations are amazing, and the words rhyme. It's Cam's new favorite!

We love books too! I feel like most of our days are spent reading and looking at all of the books; I love it! How sweet that she reads to her babies when you put her down. The other day Emerson fell asleep in my arms while holding a book tight to his chest; it wouldn't budge, so I laid him down with the book and he cuddled with it for his nap time. Gah! I love these babies and all of their sweetness!! We love 'Brown Bear' and 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom' too!

We loooove books. Always have. Now that we've started pre-k, I think my favorite part of our school days is sitting and reading countless books.

I have way too many favorites to list! We're total book hoarders.

  13. September 10, 2014 / 6:44 pm

Ellie has just recently gotten really into books. She brings them to me and then sits down to read or will go into her room and flip through them on her own for a good 10-15 minutes!!

  14. September 10, 2014 / 7:30 pm

how cute is it that she reads to her dolls. It always amazes me when they can recite things that you said to them, especially when you didn't think they were listening. Love the book shelf you got for her!

  15. September 10, 2014 / 8:04 pm

Brown Bear, Brown Bear has been on repeat over here for awhile, I'll have to check out Chicka Chicka Boom Boom for some variety 🙂
And love those shelves! The gutters turned out really nice.

You sound like you are describing my Molly. She is constantly on the go… Doesn't stop unless she's sleeping! And she loves to read too and we always keep a little book in her bed so she can read be fore bed and when she wakes up. My husband and I just watch her on the moniter and think it's the sweetest thing ever. Do you have "On The Nighy You Were Born" and "I Love You So"…. If not they are fantastic!

Haha, yay for wild little ladies!!!! They are too fun!!!

  17. September 11, 2014 / 4:59 am

I love that nothing can get her to sit still like books. I am not a big reader myself, but Mason LOVES us reading books to him at night (or during the day). He will grab one and just bring it over to us and plop down in our lap. Melt. My. Heart. I also agree with you… when spending money on books, I don't feel as guilty! So I stock up for every holiday!

My little girl loves book as well. Jamberry probably tops the favorite list but recently she's started liking the Llama Llama series.

Mia is such a little book worm as well, and I love it!! Eric doesn't like to read, at all, but I've been noticing him reading to Mia more and more and it makes my heart so happy!
Love Waverly's fave books! I'll definitely be adding a couple of those to our collection!

I love adding to our book collection. Aria is such a busy bee, which I'm told is nothing like how I was as a kid. But, she loves reading and we will go through her whole collection at least once a day. I just ordered her some Halloween books from Amazon this weekend! can't wait to get them!!

I love this! So sweet. We are crazy about books over here too. Hope you're doing well, friend!
