Also a highlight of our recent days, watching these two play together after a day apart. The love that Waverly has for Bogger grows all the time & it completely melts me. She practically breaks the door down to see him at the end of the day, they have a tradition of running through the downstairs together to celebrate. And every single time when we go anywhere (like every single time), she tells him “bye, bogger, be a good boy!”. It’s only a matter of time before she puts him in time-out like she does to her babies lately, I’m sure he will take (yet another one) for the team & do it, no questions asked. ๐

And lastly, the latest milestone of the week, definitely not a “little thing” that I want to experience again but that I would love your advice on! Waverly jumped out of her crib for the first time, & then the second, third, fourth … she has pretty much been showing off her new skill all week long. It came out of nowhere, she has always been a really good sleeper & I can’t even remember the last time we had an issue at all. Each time she has jumped, it has been right when we put her down for the night, she has been crying & asking us not to leave or turn the light on almost immediately. We have tried everything, rocking her, bringing her an extra baby to sleep with, letting her go potty, nothing so far seems to work. I’m thinking that she either just doesn’t want to stop having fun or is scared of the dark (or both), & that it is just a phase. That, or it is officially time for the big girl bed, something we had decided to put off for a little while longer since she was doing so well. ๐ Suggestions?!

Happy halfway through the week, friends! ๐
Seems like it is time for a toddler bed! Mostly for safety precautions. One of my friend's daughter's jumped out of hers and broke her elbow. It's a milestone my daughter went through at 17 months of age. When we first switched, slept on the floor for many naps and even some nights and took a little longer to fall asleep as she would get out and move to the door asking to be "awake!", but then with time realized we weren't coming to get her and her bed was the most comfortable spot to be. Good luck! And just wait it out, she will learn to love her new bed eventually!
My problem right now is figuring out my daughter's potty training/naptimes. Ever since we began a couple weeks ago, she's done well with #1, but for #2 she will hoard and not go until I put a diaper on her for naptime. Then she will go once or twice and they are big and she won't sleep because it bothers her. In the past two weeks she has only napped 5 out of the 14 days! She used to nap wonderfully. Ugh! I tried reverting back to diapers with hopes that she would just go in them before naptime, but nope, she is still waiting until we are home and she's in bed to go, now that she's more aware of it. It's either that or she's ready to drop her nap already at a few months short of 2.5 years?! Parenting is not for the weary!!
Thanks for the link up! It's nice to see and hear about other moms of littles in the blogging community and be reminded we are not alone! ๐
Thank you SOOO much for taking the time to write this. We are transitioning now & I am definitely using these tips! Thank you!
I love thIs post!!!
As far as the big girl bed goes, I would go ahead and do it. Better to have her in that than her to keep climbing over and somehow get hurt. Then maybe give her a little night light. Sydney has a lamp that we leave on, but we literally found her the dimmest bulb that we possibly could for her so that it was only a little bit of light. We wanted her to feel safe, but not be kept awake.
Oh my gosh, no!!! How is she big enough to get out of her crib??? I am so fearful for that day in our house. I will keep Cam in his crib as long as I can!! He went through a tiny phase a few months ago when he would want to sleep on the floor (?) but we just let him cry and we got over the phase. So, is she staying in her crib through the night once you put her back in? This is crazy! I am not ready for this!! Haha
Such sweet pictures! Love the pretty garland!
oh my! not by any means trying to be the bearer of bad news but I heard of someone who broke both legs doing that so may be time to switch that bed. I hear you though… I'm dreading it myself.
I think big girl bed. Charli never had the chance to climb out since we transitioned her so early on into her big girl bed, but I hear that you should move them out if they start climbing out, at least for precautionary measures. Also, maybe a night light if she is scared of the dark? But honestly, just be consistent. Go right back in to her room and put her right back in bed without saying a word and continue to do it until she stays. I had to do this with Charli the second week in her big girl bed because she kept getting out and crying. All it took was me standing by her door at nap time one afternoon and I went in about 10 times… and it stuck!
oh the big transition. We were lucky and never had a dare devil. You could try doing a night light, I know that's what we had to do when he started crying when we left the room too. We have two small night lights, one on each end of the room and no more crying. As for the crib, try the nightlights? But it looks like a big girl room is close by!
I would say it's time to move to the big girl bed and to maybe try a nightlight?
I would also suggest not making getting out of bed a reward/fun. Rocking, trips to the potty, extra snacks/water, etc all of those things are perks for getting out of bed. Heck, I wouldn't want to go to bed if someone was willing to do that for me ๐ I think just a simple it's time for bed and putting her back down instantly(possibly over and over) should send the message that it isn't fun time anymore. ๐
totally big girl bed time! don't be scared! we didn't treat it like anything new– didn't make a big deal of it. just put her down like normal and never had any issues (BUT i think lex is afraid of the dark. so she won't get out of bed because she's scared? or is just a good rule follower?). in order to combat some of the scariness we put her down with a flashlight and a nightlight owl (i got at target that she can hold onto) she reads herself to bed and i take everything away once she's asleep.
good luck! and don't worry!! if she's ready- she's ready!
"Be a good boy"…I love it!!! Arden's had a few of those moments lately where I think she might be scared of the dark? Just totally random…so maybe it's a phase? Sorry, I'm no help!! I'm not quite ready the big girl bed transition yet!!
Big girl bed and a night light! I'm dreading the day Ais can't be contained by her crib!!
Shoot, I typed you a comment, but it didn't post. We just did the toddler bed transition and I posted on it. Here's the link if you want the details. http://alwayspaintedusuallychipped.blogspot.com/2014/09/toddler-bed.html It was probably the easiest transition for us yet and I was terrified of it. I owe the success to this clock and the fact that we flipped his door knob around so that when we leave we can lock it from the outside (we can open it right up of course and we have a key in his room in case we get locked in there on accident) http://www.amazon.com/Onaroo-Childrens-Alarm-Clock-Nightlight/dp/B00EAHSBV4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411588776&sr=8-1&keywords=onaroo+clock
Thank you SO much for this – definitely going to take this tips! XO
Her boots – I'm dead. So cute.
Jumping on board with everyone elseโฆ It sounds like it's time to transition to the big girl bed. Good luck, momma!!
Oh my she is so cute and love seeing kiddos and their dogs together!! Before we had Ellie I have our dog Cooper time outs when he misbehaved! So I'm sure he'll be used to it if Ellie ever tries!
Sounds like you might be ready for a big girl bed…. Let me know how that goes!
She is so cute! I would recommend trying a nightlight and soothing white noise first. If that doesn't work, big girl bed it is!
So sweet with the pup!!! Aria likes shouting at them to go poop. I'm sure she'll expand upon that soon enough!
oh no the new bed! I hope it goes well. Sounds like it is time.
Yes ma'am it's time to convert to a toddler bed!! We did two of the quads several months ago and the other two followed a few weeks later. Here's my blog post on the transition we experienced: http://bellsandkilts.blogspot.com/2014/07/quad-squad-toddler-bed-transition.html?m=1
Good luck mama!!!
YAY- thank you!!!!!!!!!
When my niece started playing Houdini and making her way out of her crib, my sister lowered the mattress to the floor so that she would still be in the crib as she didn't want her wandering around the house. They put a gate at the top of their stairs and once she was fully potty trained (not sleeping in diapers/pull ups) they converted her crib to the full size bed so that she would be able to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night as needed.
How sweet that Waverly and Bogger love each other so much. I wish our dog was that loving and sweet with Emerson -he tolerates him while Emerson just wants to hug and love on him. Maybe one day? I hope you figure out a solution to the climbing out of the crib thing! I am dreading the day that happens. I'm not sure what we'll do! A big girl bed could be a fun thing for her- but also kind of scary! Why do they have to grow up so fast and climb out of their bed?! ๐
man, Elyse is going to be 3 in December and she's still in her crib. We haven't transitioned yet because she's never been an acrobat…but I know the time is coming! Good luck momma and let me know how it goes, I'm scared to death to transition her to a big girl bed!
She is just the cutest! I love how she sits there so cutely and politely eating her snack. Mason cannot sit still for more than 2.7 seconds so getting a picture of him is nearly impossible these days! Also, I die of cuteness of her telling Bogger to be a good boy while your gone. Melt my heart.
Good luck with the big girl bed!
