Girl Fun

Not for lack of effort on my part, Waverly Maye has always been a daddy’s girl.  She is obsessed with everything about him, & though it totally makes me jealous from time to time, I adore their relationship & how sweet they are together.  There really isn’t much better than watching your husband become a father, especially an amazing one & Joe is definitely that.

Yet all of a sudden, Waverly has started throwing out mama on the regular.  She repeats my name at night from her crib, my babysitter says she asks for mama everyday lately, & the best feeling ever (is that wrong?!), the last week there are definite tears if I leave the room.
I’m sure I’ll be eating my words on this one soon, but I am really loving this new phase.

My mini & I both love any reason to celebrate so we were super excited for a 2-year old little lady’s birthday party over the weekend.  My husband got a pass on this one, he really can hang with the best of them but understandably, doesn’t get as excited about these things that we do.
So it was an all-girl affair. 🙂

The party was at a local kids gym complete with bubbles, lots of toys & room to wander so obviously, Waverly was in her element & we had a great time.  At one point in my life celebrations came with cocktails instead of cake pops, but honestly, these are way better & best of all, don’t come paired with a hangover the next day.  It was a definite success.

In other girl news, I am thankful to be a working mom who still gets to fit in lots of quality time with my little during the week.  Most days I am able to reunite with Waverly by 3pm, which gives us three entire hours together before Joe gets home for dinner.  You better believe I make every attempt to take advantage of these moments every day, we usually stay busy with lots of toy-playing, dancing, baking, & walks to our favorite park.

So I have to share what happened during our togetherness time last week.
I’ve mentioned Waverly’s lack of interest in crafts before.  In most other ways she is a typical girl so I really do forgive her for this, but my little lady has no interest in DIY anything.  I’ve obviously tried, more than once.  Yet the other day I was at Target & literally could not resist a display of bright colored fingerpaint on the end cap.  It was that kind of Target tempting, you know the one when you would just feel wrong if you didn’t buy it … & then continue to think about it for days on end.

I was super excited to break it out that afternoon, it was freezing cold out & for some reason, I had really convinced myself that Waverly was going to be into our day’s indoor activity.  She even sat perfectly in her playroom chair, which then sealed the deal for me that our mom & daughter crafting adventures had officially begun.

Don’t let the sweet, serene picture fool you.  Within seconds, our afternoon took a really messy turn.  Seriously, I hadn’t even poured two drops out of the first paint bottle when Waverly put her little finger down in it, jumped from her chair & onto our Pottery Barn rocking horse.
With her fingers all covered in blue.
I should have known my child well enough to know that she would have found rocking back & forth on a horse way more tempting than sitting still in a chair.  Mom fail #1. 😉
Then, Waverly decided to pull her diaper off, run naked into her room looking for another one, found one & desparately (& I mean desperately) tried to put that one on herself.  Even while sitting back on the rocking horse.
And because my painting plan hadn’t already backfired enough, while laughing at Waverly trying to find a diaper on her changing table shelves, I randomly noticed a bottle of piggy paint hidden in the crack behind it.  It had clearly been there a while, I’m pretty sure we bought that back when Waverly hadn’t even yet started crawling.  We would have known better after that.
Well, I really decided to throw all caution out the window at that point & attempt to paint wild Waverly’s toes.  And for what it’s worth, I managed to get a whole one & a half toes complete.
Our afternoon taught me a couple of things … (1) Waverly is not the next Picasso & we really are ok with it, (2) she may just be ready to potty-train, & (3) 6 more days of this, & Waverly will have a full set of perfectly pedicured toes.
Happy Monday to you all, hope you had the best weekend!!
XOXO

Haha, what a fun post. I love trying to do crafts too, despite how crazy and unpredictable it can be! Soon enough I'm sure you'll find something Waverly likes to do, maybe play dough?

She sounds exactly like my daughter! I'm all pinning toddler crafts on Pinterest and she's all, no way I'm sitting still to do that mom! Someday…!

Aww! Those little piggies look adorable! Clay has learned to take his diaper off too so we've been talking about the potty more with him.

She is so cute! Love her little outfit from the birthday party.

You are brave to buy finger paints! I keep thinking I want to pick some up for Harper but she'd paint our entire house:)

Hahaha…what a day!!! I leave the painting to day care so they can clean up the mess, so kudos to you for trying at home!! I LOVE her outfit from the birthday party – she is the most stylish little girl out there! 🙂

PS I'm glad to hear that I'm on the only mom to go solo to some things…I prefer to free Chad from some of our events. 😉

Love her little piggy tails with those headbands!! What a doll!

  10. March 3, 2014 / 3:31 pm

That story is hilarious! I am scared to death to bring out paints because I just know Elin will get her hands covered in paints and then touch everything in sight before I can rein her in.

  11. March 3, 2014 / 4:20 pm

This is seriously just too cute! Sydney has never been too into crafts either, unless it involves paint. And then you had better be ready to give a bath afterwards, because it ends up all overt the place. That is just too funny that you were only able to get two piggys done! Too funny!

  12. March 3, 2014 / 5:12 pm

Haha so cute!! you seriously take the best pictures! At least you tried and know that you can move on to the next mama-daughter adventure! 🙂

  13. March 3, 2014 / 5:26 pm

    Love her cute little pedi!

  14. March 3, 2014 / 5:43 pm

Hahaha! Wow, what a day! I'm kind of exhausted just reading it! 😉 But so glad you had some one on one special time! And Charli is TOTALLY going through a "daddy is my favorite" stage! 😉 haha! I will admit though, it really doesn't bother me because being a stay at home mom, I get her all to myself all day every day, so seeing her light up when he comes in the house, and screaming DADA on the top of her lungs, is pure bliss! Hope you all have a wonderful week!

I love her pigtails and the pic of her at the table is beautiful! We have the same learning cube! Happy Monday!

so adorable! I so desperately want to keep Elyse's nails & toes painted, because painted nails on a toddler is just too precious…but of course keeping her still until they dry is a NIGHTMARE!!

  32. March 4, 2014 / 10:12 pm

Aw, what a sweet post! And I love that she's saying "mama" all the time. Secretly I am kind of afraid that our new baby boy will end up liking his Daddy more than me, which I know is crazy but I totally think about it!

  33. March 5, 2014 / 4:28 am

That sounds like the girl version of my attempt at painting with Mason. I thought it would be fun to finger paint pictures for valentines day and it ended horribly. Mainly I stuck his hand in the paint, tried to make a picture, and he started crying. Needless to say, I don't think he will be the next Picasso either! LOL

MICHELLE: When the man I love broke up with me, my world fell apart. I had gone to several casters and I got no results. Until I found Dr okun of okuntemple@gmail.com and gave another try to retrieve my lover and restore the passionate relationship I had with him. I’m glad I did all that he requested of me and trusted him. He performed a spiritual cleansing to banish negative energies that was fighting against our relationship and casted a love spell. After four days, the man I missed dearly started to call me and told me how much he really missed me and that he is sorry for leaving me in the cold. Help me to say Thank you to Dr okun of okuntemple@gmail.com his contact number is +2347060595685
