Friday Things

Oh Friday, we are so very happy to see you! 🙂  It’s just been one of those weeks our way, the kind where you feel like the universe just has to be against you.  The kind where every single time you sit down to breastfeed your five-month old, your toddler is screaming bloody murder that she needs you to wipe her because she’s pooped for the third time that day.  The kind where you pack both girls up to take them to lunch just to get out of the house and then watch the older one spill two huge glasses of water within twenty minutes of each other.  The kind where your baby refuses to nap so you give up & go to Target, but come home with a bunch of random stuff and not even close to what you went for.

It’s definitely been one of my hardest parenting weeks to date & I totally deserve a bottle of wine after it.  Yet I’m choosing to focus on the positive, that even with all of the frustrating moments, there was so, so much good.  Waverly talking ALL of the time about her “best friend” at school, her name is Sara and their title as besties became official this week.  Avalon getting so close to sitting up, one of my favorite milestones!, and belly laughing during peekaboo.   Waverly using our carry-me-potty in the parking lot (yep, the parking lot) during errands the other day & asking me how to flush it.  And the one that always sticks with me the most, the two older ladies sitting next to us at lunch just watching our three-ring circus with the biggest smiles on their faces.  Clearly wishing they could go back in time to when their kids were that little.
The days are long but the years are short.

Avalon’s Burgundy Onesie & Hat (Similar)

I wanted to share a few of the things I have my eye on right now, this time of year is the worst for sucking me in & making me want everything!  One, these flats from Old Navy.  So cute for the price & so versatile!  Two, this dress for the littles, I love maroon for the holidays and love it even more with the velvet.  And my favorite, this advent calendar for the holidays, we have one but I definitely want to switch it out for this!  LOVE!

Happy, happy weekend!

I know all about those weeks, girl!!! Hang in there! Plus, your girls are the cutest! Avalon is really starting to look like Waverly! I love it!!!

  4. November 13, 2015 / 1:24 pm

Love that in spite of the difficulty of the week, you're choosing to look at the positive things–and there are lots. Those two beautiful girls being the biggest positives! 🙂

  5. November 13, 2015 / 1:30 pm

My sister is currently on her way to my house to help relieve me after a week of much the same, mama. And a husband who has been on call every other day. Life has kicked my BUTT this week, so I totally understand where you are coming from. Trying desperately to remember that quote – the days are long but the years are short, because I know it is so very true.

  6. November 13, 2015 / 1:42 pm

These two… the cutest! Love her windowpane dress!

  7. November 13, 2015 / 2:11 pm

Sweet about the older ladies watching the show with smiles. It may be crazy but there is so much love too.

  8. November 13, 2015 / 2:35 pm

The days are long, for sure, but I am not wishing this time away!! Target is ON POINT with their Christmas collections this year! Love that advent calendar!! Happy Weekend, friend!

  9. November 13, 2015 / 5:12 pm

Same week here, too. I even posted about it today, too. We are all in this together. 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  10. November 13, 2015 / 6:37 pm

We had a bit of a rough week too! And I was seriously just thinking about how I know a time will come when I will yearn for the days of cooking with a baby on my hip. Of toys strewn across the floor, and a messy cluttered house. They are sure hard, but I am trying to enjoy them!

  11. November 13, 2015 / 6:37 pm

Most favorite quote to date! So so true. So glad you still had some positives to celebrate through all the hard times this week. Wishing you the happiest of weekends! Love ya! xoxo

  12. November 13, 2015 / 10:05 pm

Seriously how freaking cute is your family? Insta stalked (check) blog stalked (check) haha seriously so glad I found my way here! And can I just say Waverly & Avlon are the cutest names?? So funny she carried around her potty haha she must be so excited to use it and show it off 🙂 I used to nanny and I would get lots of stares with my little circus as we went out in public. Sometimes you just gotta let them win haha

  14. November 14, 2015 / 2:34 pm

Yes, this time of the year totally makes me want all the things! Isn't it just the sweetest when kids start making "best" friends?! Owen has friends Kolby who he calls his best buddy and I just love that he has this great friendship. Have a nice weekend!!

  15. November 14, 2015 / 4:45 pm

That picture of A with Sophie in her high chair just killed me dead. Love her!!

  16. November 15, 2015 / 4:05 am

LOVE that advent calendar!!! We don't have one and I probably don't need one but you make me want this one!

  17. November 15, 2015 / 5:07 am

Parenting is SO hard sometimes but so rewarding all the time. There are days I wonder if I'll make it but like you, I wouldn't trade this life for anything!

Friday Things

Happy Friday, & as crazy as it is, happy HALFWAY through October! I guess it’s true what they say, time flies when you are having fun.  Also, I would like to add when you have kids, because seriously, where has this year gone?!  I can’t even believe that we will be decking the halls in just a handful of weeks.
Exciting news for both our girls the past few days, one, Waverly made it into school without crying yesterday!  It was our first tear free drop-off since the first week of school & I was so very proud of her.  We celebrated with lollipops and a trip to buy a new baby doll, both of which were promises (bribes) we made the night before. 🙂  And Avalon Elle had her four month check-up, she is still our little peanut at only 13 pounds – 4th percentile for height & 35th for weight – but all news was good!  I wish I could have celebrated with candy & gifts for her too, instead she got shots.  With lots of love from mama and sister afterwards.

My Overalls & Avalon’s Headband

And little miss decided to roll over (from belly to back) this week!  Such a big-time girl now, I’m convinced next up is driving to school & going to prom.

A few of my favorite finds, starting with these Halloween jams that I picked up for the girls after they went on sale this week.  I always like to stock up the year before on things like that, and now that I have to buy two pairs, it’s more important than ever!  And this white tutu dress is about the sweetest thing ever for either Thanksgiving or Christmas, or both.  So versatile & so, so cute!

Lastly, I am part of two giveaways on my Instagram this week!  The first lasts until tomorrow & is maybe the biggest giveaway ever, a Burberry scarf, Hunter boots and $50 gift cards to four amazing shops.  The biggest thank you to Sara for organizing this, you can enter on my IG account here (ashleywbrickner).

And for the girl mamas, Sweet Baby Paige has some of my absolute favorite bows for the girls, I love to get the larger size bows for Waverly and a matching headband for Avalon.  While they let me.  To celebrate the owner’s birthday today (happy birthday Stefani!), her entire shop is 16% off and she is offering one lucky winner a $50 credit!  You can enter here at some point later today, good luck!

No tear drop off!! Success! I bribed Aria with waffles this morning if she would just sleep all night long. She did. Color me surprised, and well rested.

Friday Things

Aaah Friday, we made it to the weekend!  This was my first official week back to work since I started my maternity leave last May (four months total!), a week I have been looking forward to & nervous about all at the same time.  Overall, it went really well and I think this part-time thing is going to be good for all of us!  We have some things to get used to, (1), Avalon & the bottle, we are now two for two on our breastfed babies wanting nothing to do with bottles, (2), getting two kids logistically ready for a day without both of us, do people really do this with more than two kids?, and they deserve a medal!, & (3), that damn awful pump.  It turns out I hate it just as much this time as last time.  Yet we had so many positives, both girls did great, Waverly was sure to tell me that she “took care” of Avalon when I wasn’t there.  I am so glad that they have each other!  As for me, it was actually nice to have a reason to get ready.  Plus, one day I even ate my entire lunch (at one time) AND found the time to pee (alone!).

Other highlights of the week included Avalon’s new rolls & cutest ever dimple!  She is so, so close to rolling over and laughing out loud, I know it is going to come any minute (maybe together?), we are just so head over heels in love with her.  We took Waverly to the splash pad and for a little nature walk, I think she is going to have serious summer withdrawals in the upcoming months, girl likes a swimsuit!  And lastly, Waverly has had a couple rough threenager moments as of late, but (almost) made us forget all of it with how sweet she is with her little sis.  She pulled her close & whispered, “I love you sooooooo much, Avalon, you are MY little sister”.

Avalon’s Denim Dress & Bonnet, Waverly’s Suit from Gap, Waverly’s Headband

Before I sign off for the weekend, a couple of favorites!

I’m totally in planning mode with fall upon us, my co-worker introduced me to Erin Condren planners, am I the last to find about these?  Has anyone tried them?  They look amazing!

I recently got these overalls & love them, so cute and ridiculously comfortable.  I also came across this denim jumpsuit that I can’t stop thinking about, it would be so versatile all fall long!

Wishing you the happiest holiday weekend!

Glad the first week back wasn't too terrible. I am sure you all will find your groove and soon getting two ready will be a lot easier. I don't have anything to suggest for the pump, maybe a special treat when pumping is all over ;)! Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

  2. September 4, 2015 / 11:09 am

Oh my goodness, Waverly is so sweet to her little sister. I love it! So glad your te back at work has gone well. Yay for eating your entire lunch and peeing by yourself!! That's a feat! I have an erin condren planner and like it a lot. There are things is change but it's so organized and pretty!!! You'll love it. Have a great weekend!!

  3. September 4, 2015 / 11:47 am

Oh peeing by yourself sound amazing… I rarely get to do that ;). Glad to hear your week back went well. I'm sure Avalon will adjust to the bottle soon enough. And I'm with waverly, I think I'm gonna have a summer withdrawal too!

  4. September 4, 2015 / 11:49 am

Eating lunch alone and peeing alone? Mama heaven right there, lol! It's the little things:) So glad that your first week back went well!!! It's amazing that you all have worked it out for you to continue to do a job that you love, but to also be a mama – which I know you love more than anything else! You will get your routine down soon, and it will just be natural for you.

As a side note: you are a no-reply commenter now. Just thought I'd let you know! I can't respond to your comments on my blog anymore – this happened to me recently, until a friend let me know and then I had to figure out how to fix it, so email me if you have any questions! Happy weekend, sweet friend!

  5. September 4, 2015 / 1:10 pm

I'm glad you guys are adjusting ok to the new routine/schedule. I'm sure its a big adjustment, but it'll get better (but mega props to you guys doing it with two!)
Love the photos of the girls…so much sass with waverly! haha

  6. September 4, 2015 / 1:46 pm

Glad to hear the first week back wasn't too bad.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get out the door and be somewhere (anywhere) on time with two kids. I can't even wrap my head around trying to do that with more…
Holy smokes, Avalon looks so much like her big sister. And Waverly is just about the sweetest. I love how much she loves Avalon. Best big sister, ever.

  7. September 4, 2015 / 5:03 pm

Gald your first week went well! Enjoy your long weekend!

  8. September 4, 2015 / 7:34 pm

Glad your first week back went well! Hopefully Avalon will decide that the bottle is just as good when you're not there 🙂 I love her little dimple, SO sweet! and how sweet is Waverly with her? We've had a few threenager moment's over here lately too…

  9. September 4, 2015 / 8:09 pm

So glad your first week back to school went well! It is so great that you are able to do it part time. That first picture of little Avalon is too adorable! Dimples make me melt a little bit inside, every. single. time.

And the Erin Condren planner is amazing! I LOVED it while teaching! And even now when I'm not teaching, I still love it just as much. It is by far my favorite planner ever. I'm sure you will love using it if you get one!

  10. September 5, 2015 / 1:17 am

Such ridiculously cute pictures of the girls!!! So glad to hear going back to work has been kind to you this week. That first day is the hardest. I hear you on the pumping; its a love-hate relationship but it gets easier once a routine sets in, sending you positive thoughts!

  11. September 5, 2015 / 2:52 am

Yay for a good first week back (and part-time, hooray!!) And I seriously have no idea how people get more than 2 kids out of the house–let alone on time. Seriously…how?!?! And finally, these pictures are TOO much. You have the sweetest girls ever!!! Have a great holiday weekend!

  12. September 5, 2015 / 11:40 pm

YAY for your first week back going so well!!!! Makes you know you made the right decision on part time 🙂 And how awesome you get a 3 day weekend right after your first week back too, it's a nice way to ease into the school year 🙂
Also, I have an Erin Condren planner (a regular one, not teacher) and I LOVE it so I imagine her teacher ones are just as good. I highly recommend it!!
LOVE the pictures (as usual), you're girls are SO cute!

  13. September 7, 2015 / 2:24 am

Hope the new school year is treating you well! My husband is also a teacher and starts on Tuesday. It's that time of the year!

Friday Things

Happy, happy Friday!  First, I wanted to thank you all so very much for your sweet comments on Avalon’s nursery.  For those who asked, here is the link to the first pallet wall my husband did in our living room about a year ago.  For both walls, all of the wood was completely free, found either on craig’s list or literally on the side of the road.  I can vividly remember driving around Virginia Beach this winter, me with my growing belly & Waverly in the car seat, searching for wood that someone didn’t want anymore.  We are all about free, it leaves room to spend money in other places, so it’s the best project ever! 🙂

In other news, Avalon is getting more alert by the day, plus her smiles are getting more frequent & intentional, we all can’t get enough!  She is happiest in the mornings, we all love to see who can get her to smile the biggest, especially Waverly.  And speaking of Waverly, just when I thought they looked alike before, I am convinced they are getting more similar all of the time.  Their newborn pictures are seriously identical, we have twins three years apart!

Swaddle Blanket & Headband
Along with Avalon’s longer awake times have come some serious “hold me or I will scream my head off” moments, apparently the girls personalities aren’t as different as we thought.  Along with her pure sweetness, Avalon definitely has some spunk to her, which truly is one of the many things we love about Waverly so we are rolling with it. 😉  She is not afraid to let us know what she thinks, we have quickly learned that girlfriend likes to be held & does not like the car seat.  As far as the being held thing, I am so thankful for my solly wrap, I have been wearing her so much & really love having her close all of the time just as much as she does.  From having Waverly, I know how fast this whole thing goes so I am just soaking it in while I can.  The car seat is an entirely different story, she hates it so much that I’m thinking the cars a few miles away can hear her.  I feel so bad for her (& seriously consider never leaving the house again), but just keep remembering that this is just a phase, especially when I look at Waverly (who did the exact same thing!) one car seat over staring at her like she is crazy. I have decided that’s one of the things that makes having a second easier, the first time around you feel like tough things like that are going to last forever, where as now I know different.
Thankfully. 🙂

We celebrated my mom’s birthday this week, Waverly & I baked cupcakes, went to the waterpark with her, and we are having a family dinner tonight!  We are really so, so thankful for her, I’m sure others can relate, but being a mom myself has made me realize how lucky I am & how much she really has has done for me my entire life.  I couldn’t have made it through these first weeks with both girls without her, as someone with two extra hands to help, but also as emotional support whenever I have needed it.   I am so glad that these ladies get to grow up with a Glamma like her.

For the record, I feel really bad now about all those times that I was a hormonal hot mess of a high school girl, someone please remind me of this when I have TWO girls in high school at the same time. OMG.

And lastly, an outtake from our pictures for Glamma!  This picture cracks me up, Avalon started getting upset & Waverly just sighed, put her hand on her head to console her, & started to eat her cupcake.  Waverly, I don’t blame you & yes Avalon, you have already mastered the bottom lip pout, I will give you whatever you want, forever, whenever you do it.

Enjoy your weekend!
XO

I love when babies get old enough to smile, it's so sweet. And that picture with Avalon, Waverly and the cupcake is sooooo funny and precious! Have a fabulous Friday, pretty!

  2. July 17, 2015 / 11:18 am

Driving in the car with a baby who hates the car seat can be torture! I remember feeling the same way with noah… That it would always be that way! He would be fine if someone was in the back entertaining him so I would be crazy and have my mom drive with us everywhere and I would sit back there when my husband drove. Such a bad habit for all of us because we still do it!!! Crazy first time parents!

  3. July 17, 2015 / 12:14 pm

oh my word! THIS POST is too adorable–the girls are so cute! and avalon's nursery–ALL THE HEART EYES.

  4. July 17, 2015 / 1:04 pm

I'm all about free too! I hope y'all have a great dinner celebrating your mom. I've heard a lot of moms rave about the solly wrap, I'll have to look into it. Cute pictures!

  5. July 17, 2015 / 1:58 pm

Gah! You are so fortunate to have found all that free pallet wood! I'm always on the hunt for that stuff but apparently it's a rare commodity here. Such a bummer.
That swaddle and headband – swooning x1000. And, oh my goodness, yes, Waverly and Avalon look so much alike. It will be so fun to see how similar/different they look as they grown.

And that last picture? HAAAA!!! Love.

  6. July 17, 2015 / 2:43 pm

Awww it looks like Avalon is waving hi in the second picture! Too cute!
I love how caring Waverly is with her–you can tell she's already a protective big sister!

  7. July 17, 2015 / 4:12 pm

That last picture is hilarious!! No fun having a baby who hates the car seat. Mine has started hating it, but only when I pick him up from 'school,' so the 15 minute ride home is torture!

  8. July 17, 2015 / 6:25 pm

Oh my word, that last photo is the cutest thing I've ever seen!!! 🙂 Dying!

  9. July 17, 2015 / 7:15 pm

Love the outtake and the story behind it! Your girls are the BEST!
I never wore Mia so I'm excited to wear baby boy as much as I can! I'm sure I'll be needing the hands free anyway!

  10. July 17, 2015 / 8:30 pm

Awww at that last photo of the two girls. Oh and that little one is definitely workin the lower lip pout. Hahaha. Oh too too cute!

  11. July 17, 2015 / 11:11 pm

Aww, what cute photos!!! Hope you have a great weekend!! xoxo

  12. July 18, 2015 / 1:30 am

My daughter cried in the car seat the first year of her life. You read that right. One year.
She's almost 4 and the sweetest thing ever. It passed and she doesn't believe is when we tell her that. Sweet girls you have.

  13. July 18, 2015 / 5:33 am

Aww that last picture! Too funny. And that pout! Man, she's got it down already!
I remember those terrible car seat days. Mason HATED his infant car seat with the fire of a thousand suns. I swear I didn't want to go anywhere either. We loved him into his big boy carseat (facing backwards of course) earlier than normal probably (6 or 7 months) but it made a WORLD of difference and he was SO happy. It was so worth it! Girlfriend needs leg room! lol.
Hope you guys have a great weekend!

  14. July 18, 2015 / 3:59 pm

I want to be called Glamma! That is the best name ever! Though I can wait another 22 years before Ellie has a babe….,ha!

I wonder if A is uncomfortable in the car seat…have you tried fitting her in different styles?

  15. July 20, 2015 / 3:42 am

Hahah that last picture is everything!! Your girls are going to be such besties!

Friday Things

TGIF!  I can’t even explain how happy I am that Friday has finally arrived, I feel like we totally deserve this one after last weekend’s unexpected date with the flu.  We are planning on a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast a few days early (bring on the green!) & tonight, are taking Waverly Maye to the hibachi grill for the first time.  I know she will love it, not to mention it’s been a major craving of mine, so it’s a win-win for everyone. 🙂

The weather has been beautiful this week, which we have welcomed with open arms!  Sunshine is good for the soul, I am sure of it, it has been the best cure for both us girls.  We have been loving our daily walks & even afternoon errands have been so much more enjoyable without twelve layers on each of us.  I am really hoping this sticks & we can say farewell to winter until next year!

We have had a slight sleep regression lately, Waverly is still in her big girl bed (& hasn’t attempted to get out of it), but is suddenly taking a really long time to fall asleep during both naps and bedtime.  We can’t really decide what it is, her wanting attention, going through a phase, a combination of the two or none if it, but she will call out from her room for as long as an hour until she finally gets quiet.  The other night she screamed out to request lotion for a hurt finger (which wasn’t hurt), then for cheez-its “in a bowl”, & finally, repeatedly yelled out to tell me her birthday was Wednesday (it’s in July).  We used to go in there at every request, but have since decided we are enabling her, so instead we are (trying) to let her get through it on her own.  Which is no fun.

Then the other day at nap time, she did the same thing, when I finally went in she had pulled every one of her name letters off the wall, taken the pillowcase off her pillow, & completely undressed herself.  I asked her to go back to sleep even though I was sure her nap was a wash that day, then was completely shocked when she got quiet AND slept for over two & half hours.  I finally went in there to wake her but she was sound asleep, looking like an absolute angel.  Obviously, making it all worth it.

Some things I am loving this week, this dress that is bump-friendly but is also super cute pregnant or not, these cupcakes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, & did you see that Gap is 40% until the 16th?!  I am loving all of their spring line right now, this would be the perfect time to pick up some of it!
Wishing you all a happy, happy weekend!

The weather and sunshine are definitely good for the soul! Despite a pretty stressful week, having nicer weather has helped keep my mood light and happy! (Any day that I can drive with my sunroof open is a good day in my book!)
Can't wait to see pictures of Waverly at the hibachi grill! I'm sure she's going to love it! Have a great weekend!!

  2. March 13, 2015 / 12:24 pm

So cute that you guys are doing a St. Patty’s breakfast and her first time at hibachi?! That’s so monumental! I’d be happy if the sunshine stayed forever! This burst of spring is just what we needed! Hoping the sleep troubles start getting better but my gosh! How cute does she look in those pics!

  3. March 13, 2015 / 1:42 pm

So glad you guys are feeling better now. And you are not alone on the sleep regression, Mama! Caleb did great the entire month of February – went right to sleep at naptime and bedtime in his big boy bed with no problems. March arrived…And bye bye went the easy sleep times. He is up 5 or 6 times each night now. We realized we were enabling him too, and have since allowed him to cry a bit instead of responding to every time he gets up. It's hard, but I think it's the only way he'll learn (he's way too smart and thinks it's a game to make mommy and daddy come in every 5 minutes to tuck him back in!) But you're right – it's so hard!

Also, quick question – are Waverly's sheets from Land of Nod? I would love a gold polka dot crib sheet for Vivian, but Land of Nod is the only place I've been able to find one and was hoping to get one for a better price elsewhere if possible!

And finally. Oh, Gap. I've been so good about avoiding shopping right now. But 40% off??? That makes me want to go ahead and stock up for after baby. After all, I'm going to need some new things, right? 🙂

  4. March 13, 2015 / 1:44 pm

Those pictures of her sleeping are DREAMY! Literally! I love them! And if lex is taking extra long we give her ONE "go-in". And then i hand her 2 books and tell her to read until she's sleepy enough to sleep. It SEEMS to work? I don't know. Toddler and sleep man.

  5. March 13, 2015 / 2:30 pm

So sorry to hear about the sleep regression. We're battling a bit of the same, and trying our hardest to not go in at every single request. It can be so hard to stay put when they're bellowing for something!
    Have the best weekend!

  6. March 13, 2015 / 3:11 pm

We go through some crazy sleep periods! I am sorry you're going through one now….Cam went through a few nights were he threw everything out of his crib, and I thought, for sure, that it would be a battle, but like you, I went up, put it all back in, and he went right to sleep. These kids! 😉 I hope you have a great weekend celebrating St Patrick's Day – I think we are going to hit a parade, too!! PS LOVE that dress!!

  7. March 13, 2015 / 3:54 pm

I am so sorry you girls came down with the flu. That thing is a nightmare.. I'm sure even worse being pregnant. Btw. I am loving your bump pictures. I am pretty certain we are only weeks apart. We are transitioning my 2 year old, Caprilee, into a big girl room/bed in the next month. I am terrified. Her naps are less and less as well. Any tricks you gain through this time.. please share! I think staying strong and not going in at every plea (like you've been doing) is a good tactic. Enjoy the sunshine!

  8. March 13, 2015 / 5:48 pm

Oh silly Waverly girl! Nap time has been such a beast lately for us. 2-3 days out of the week, Mia won't fall asleep at ALL during nap time! She will literally hangout and play in her crib for 3 hours straight. It's maddening when I know she needs the sleep! This is one reason I'm totally weary to give up the crib and put her in a big girl bed. Yikes!!

  9. March 13, 2015 / 7:38 pm

Isn't it amazing how the biggest fit can be thrown or how you 'fight' them on getting them to take a nap/stay in bed or eat their veggies … and then the very next minute they are smothering you with hugs and kisses or looking absolutely adorable. It's impossible to be upset with a cute little stinker! I'm sure that's why babies and toddlers are so cute! Hopefully nap/bed time goes better for you all! And, enjoy your yummy dinner, it sounds amazing!! 🙂

  10. March 13, 2015 / 8:28 pm

she is going to LOVE the hibachi grill! Elyse loves to watch the cook!

I wish I could tell you that the nighttime delay will go away quickly…but Elyse just goes through phases. There doesn't ever seem to be a rhyme or reason to it, but we typically give in after 4-5 cryouts and we threaten to take away one of her stuffed animals if we have to come back in. Thankfully that works pretty well!

  11. March 13, 2015 / 8:39 pm

LOL about the stuff she called out for. Abigail does the same thing and it is equal parts so frustrating and so freaking hilarious.

We've had beautiful weather this week too and it has been SO refreshing! Total spirit lifter to be able to get outside for a bit!!

  12. March 14, 2015 / 2:40 am

YAY for sunshine! Hope it lasts all weekend so you guys can go out and play!
We're also celebrating St. Patty's Day a little early this weekend and I can't wait to make it a special green day for Mason. Us working mamas gotta get in our festive holiday-ness when we can 🙂
    Have the best weekend! xo

  13. March 14, 2015 / 1:21 pm

Isn't this weather fabulous?! Waverly looks so happy being outside with her popsicle! Hoping her sleep regression is just a tiny phase that passes quickly. Xo, Stephanie

  14. March 14, 2015 / 3:26 pm

After that second picture I didn't think she could get cuter…..than those sleeping pictures proved me wrong! She is just so adorable! I'm so glad you're feeling better, so many mamas sick this week!

Scarlett has been going through a bit of a sleep regression, also. I'm attributing it to the time change, but who knows. She will cry out in her bed forever and wants me to lay with her to fall asleep. I LOVE those photos of Waverly sleeping so peacefully, they're seriously Dreamy!! 🙂

  16. March 16, 2015 / 3:16 pm

The sleeping pics! I love them. But it is super hard to just leave them alone when they are calling out for you.

  17. March 16, 2015 / 4:41 pm

Her face is so precious!!!! She just wanted to sleep naked mama, geez 😉

Friday Things

Happy Friday, friends!!  It’s been another week of snow days around here, it was regularly scheduled programming for Monday & Tuesday, followed with TWO snowstorms and we have been out of the rest of the week! 🙂  Part of me is over it & beyond ready for spring, then the other part sees Waverly’s face in it and almost considers moving us to a place where this actually happens on the regular.  Almost. 😉

I wanted to thank you for all your sweet support on Waverly’s bed transition I shared earlier this week, as always, I am so appreciative of your helpful comments & ability to relate.  We are definitely not experts (far from it) & I’m sure we will have a set-back before too long (like when she figures out she is physically able to move from the bed), but so far, so good, & we are happy!

Randomly, we also have other big girl news to share, Waverly is officially potty-trained!  It actually happened the same day that we moved her to her new bed, which we didn’t plan AT ALL.  She had been going potty at home for a while now, pretty much since I did the three-day boot camp over the summer, but it definitely wasn’t something that happened all the time & it had never happened while we were out of the house.  Then last week we ran out of diapers, like literally didn’t even have one, so I had to put her in big girl panties to run to Target & get them.  I was completely nervous, but as soon as we got there she told me she had to go & after I took her to the bathroom, she went! 🙂  A total first for us.  After that, she asked to go back twice in the same trip & then when we got home.  So we rolled with it, & pretty much have ever since, with pull-ups still at night for now! 🙂  I’m so proud of her & definitely excited to have only one set of diapers to change come June, but seriously, did it really all have to happen that same day (the same day we had her first mani & pedi, by the way)?!  She is SUCH a big girl. 😉

Also, for what it’s worth, I don’t want to sound like we have our shit completely together over here with all this happening.  We still have a pacifier problem (yes, still), that seems to have gotten worse since these recent big girl developments.  She was only using them at night & naps, then I think I got more lenient over a short sickness she had and because I have been so proud of her lately.  Any advice is definitely welcome & appreciated, I know this problem will only get worse once little sister has her own pacifiers in a few short months!

Lastly, a quick sneak peek of a fun girls snowy session we had with our friend, Brooke earlier this week!  I can’t even explain how much I love the fact that I have pictures of my growing belly in the snow, something I didn’t think I would have be able to get in Virginia Beach!  I can’t wait to share more, Brooke is so talented & we are so thankful to be able to work with her!

Have a happy, happy weekend!
XO

Girl, those pictures are gorgeous and you look so great! We had the paci problem too and it wasn't just at night. Our friend had a baby and I came up with the idea of telling my son that she didn't have any pacis and that since she's a baby he should give his to her. He was ALL for it and just like that, the habit was broken. It's funny when they put their minds to something it's no big deal!

  2. February 27, 2015 / 1:20 pm

Love the pics of her in the snow! And of YOU in the snow!!! Adorable!
Everything takes a little bit of time, effort and research…wouldn't it be nice if kids came with instruction manuals?? 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful weekend friend!!

  3. February 27, 2015 / 1:35 pm

You've got to be the most stylish mama out there, with the cutest lil girl. Love the pictures in the snow, she is so precious.

Congrats on potty training, that's so exciting! Only one in diapers, woohoo!!!

Stay warm and enjoy the snow. Spring is coming!!!!

  4. February 27, 2015 / 1:42 pm

Your snow pictures make me actually like snow! To be fair I'm not against snow, I'm just against the below freezing temps we are experiencing! It's hard to even play in the snow up here in single digit temps!

Wow that's amazing about the bed and the potty training!

  5. February 27, 2015 / 1:56 pm

Your pictures are gorgeous! And there is just something about seeing your kiddo playing in the snow with that huge smile on their face that makes you hate snow just a little bit less for the moment. Lol. But only a little!
I am so proud of her! So many big girl things in one day!!!
As far as the pacifier goes, that one may be a little harder. If you use the kind that look like the nuks I know you can cut the tip a little and sometimes that ruins the desire for the,. But, we didn't use those. We used the green and purple ones that the hospital gives, I can't remember the name of them, and when Sydney was two we finally just had to take them cold turkey. She passed out without it before a nap and actually slept. Once I saw that she could sleep just fine without it I just took them away. It was three days of hell and then she never asked for them again. She even saw a baby with one shortly after, like a couple of weeks, and was fine. So it's hard, but maybe that's the answer. Lol. Either way, GOOD LUCK FRIEND!

  6. February 27, 2015 / 2:12 pm

Oh Waverly and her happy snow face! I love it!! Now that we are in Arizona I almost miss living where it snows regularly… then I think about having to drive in and I'm like "no thanks!"
So exciting about potty training!! The only thing we do have down in this house is the no pacifier- ha! It was so terrifying for me to take it away but then it ended up being easy peasy. Maybe start talking to Waverly about getting rid of it now, so that she can start preparing herself (it's crazy how much that helps with Mia- talking about it before doing it) and maybe that will help? Good luck!!

  7. February 27, 2015 / 2:21 pm

Big girl bed AND potty training?! I'm def coming to you in the future! Way to go! Love the snowy sesh pics and I hope ya'll enjoy your weekend! xo

  8. February 27, 2015 / 3:16 pm

You look GORGEOUS! I can't wait to see more pictures!! PS Unless you're moving to Maine, DON'T move somewhere where you get snow all the time…it's not all fun and games! 😉

GO WAVERLY…big girl bed AND potty training? I'm so glad you threw in the paci problem – I was about to send Cam to YOUR boot camp because I'm obviously slacking in the parenting department. 😉 We get so good about only using the paci for sleeping (and the car), but we get lenient, too, and he uses it other times. UGH…I LOVE it for sleeping but HATE it otherwise. I feel like whether we take it away or not, he will want it again when the baby comes (if she uses them). If you find something that works, please share!!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the snow! 😉

  9. February 27, 2015 / 6:13 pm

horray for potty training being DONE!! way to go ms waverly (and mama!). and dude, our pacifier situation is bad too. we finally stopped trying to take it away from lex during the day and she's cut back on it herself BIG TIME. she was using it as a tool to get attention from us telling her to put it back in her bed (we had it down to nap/bed time-until the new babe came). so i have zero solutions. we cant seem to ditch it especially after her transition to big sister-dom because sister gets one and blah blah. but man i'm ready to ditch it!

  10. February 27, 2015 / 8:44 pm

Such cute photos of Waverly in the snow, and your picture is gorgeous as well !!! I'm so jealous potty training went so smoothly, My Estella has no interest and I was really hoping we would be done months before #2 comes.. not looking so good. Have a wonderful snowy weekend:)

  11. February 27, 2015 / 8:47 pm

LOVE your maternity picture! How fun that you got to have some pictures taken, and in the snow to boot! And wow to little Miss Waverly! Potty trained and a big girl bed! That is so exciting! We are working on that, but I'm waiting for the warmer weather to try the boot camp training. As of right now, the little guy goes potty, mostly at night before bed, but that's a step in the right direction, right? I wish I could help you out with the paci thing, but thankfully we didn't really have to do that. I hope you'll share how it goes for you in case baby #2 loves his paci for longer than his brother did. Have a happy weekend!

  12. February 27, 2015 / 9:33 pm

I just want to let you know that after you posted about Waverly's first mani I had to give Ellie one (at home of course). You totally inspired me and Ellie is obsessed!!

  13. February 27, 2015 / 10:29 pm

YAY for Waverly with her big girl accomplishments! We actually did the pacifier before either the big bed or potty!

Here's my pacifier suggestion. Elyse would sleep with 4-5 pacifiers at various part of her crib. We took 2-3 of her favorites and a pair of scissors and clipped the end off. Just barely. And then unbeknownst to me, my husband kept clipping them ever so slightly each day. And within a week…they were gone. Elyse seemed to be much less interested in them since they were "broken." It was a beautiful thing. We did this at around 2. Pacifiers are such a necessary evil!

  14. February 27, 2015 / 10:55 pm

Oh my goodness, Ashley. That is seriously one of the most amazingly beautiful pregnancy photos I've ever seen. Get ready for that bad boy to be pinned all over the place 🙂

  15. February 28, 2015 / 2:30 am

Your snowy maternity photo is STUNNING!

  16. February 28, 2015 / 4:09 pm

WAY TO GO, Waverly!!! Wow, Mama! Big girl bed and potty trained? Those are two huge accomplishments! That's amazing! We have mastered the big boy bed here in our house, but I am dreading the potty training. Caleb has no interest in it so far – we've tried sitting on the potty, and it terrifies him, so I'm thinking I might wait until he hits 2 to try again. And we are still loving pacis over here in our house. I figure with all of the other transitions he is making right now – the big boy room, getting ready to become a big brother, facing potty training – the paci is the very last thing I will try to phase out. I do try to limit it to naptime and bedtime, but he LOVES that thing. So I am not looking forward to the day it has to go bye-bye. 🙁 Don't put too much pressure on yourself, Mama. Even if Waverly and Caleb end up with pacifiers for a bit longer than we'd prefer, eventually they will give them up. I did have a friend who took her toddler daughter to Build A Bear, and she got to build a stuffed animal, and they put her paci inside of it during the building process. She got to say bye to the paci and get a new stuffed animal out of it, and it's worked well for her so far. Maybe that would be something that could work for Waverly?

  17. February 28, 2015 / 4:20 pm

Omg!!!! Your maternity pictures!!!! Dying to see more!!!! Gorgeous!

  18. March 1, 2015 / 1:30 am

    The last picture is beautiful!
Congrats on the big girl bed and the potty training. Exciting things!
It looks like she enjoyed the snow so much!

  19. March 1, 2015 / 2:03 am

I know you read about our paci experience, I will be writing an updated post soon about how that's going. It is TOUGH! Maybe it won't be for you though! She may surprise you. If you're serious about getting rid of it I'd do it before baby..I felt like it would only be harder to get rid of it after once she saw her brother with one, not to mention dealing with the stress of it with a new baby around. Good luck!!

  20. March 1, 2015 / 7:44 pm

Way to go little lady!! Growing up so fast!! And yeah…. I would be totally with you on the snow thing if I wasn't currently having to live here…. But I can honestly say you would be over the snow even quicker when the snow is feet upon feet and it is TOO cold to even take the kids outside… Charli could care less at this point about the snow… she says "it's too fweezing outside momma"! haha! But glad you can enjoy it! And I am LOVING the maternity pics!!!!

  21. March 1, 2015 / 9:06 pm

First of all, those pictures of Waverly. ADORABLE. Seriously not only is she so photogenic, but you are an amazing photographer! Second, YAY for potty training!!!!!! You go girls! And sadly, sorry no solutions here for the pacifier… by some miracle, Mason hated his from day 1 so we never had to ween him from it.

  22. March 2, 2015 / 3:56 am

yay for potty training! Waverley is awesome 🙂 We have a paci problem too— she uses it at night on weekdays and naps and night time on weekends but sometimes if she's sick of melting down we give it to her (or if she is teething really badly) and she is definitely not giving it up soon (though she never uses it at daycare, doesn't even ask for it there…!) I have no tips…but I did read online that someone took their child to build-a-bear and put the pacis in the bear with the stuffing to say "bye bye" to them.

  23. March 3, 2015 / 6:36 am

Hello, my daughter just turned 2 and we decided to take away pacifier by making a big deal about it. First night cut off the ends, so she thought they were broken. Then we took her to build a bear and let her pick everything out. She put her pacifier in it, she knows it's in there because sometime she asks about it, so we let her feel the bear and where the pacifier is! Worked great for us!

Friday Things

Happiest Friday, friends!!  It’s been such a great week, made even better by the fact that today kicks off a three day weekend. 🙂

Bright & early Monday morning, we had our big, 20 week ultrasound to check on our littlest lady.  I am always a little nervous at these appointments, so it was the best feeling to get such great news!!  Our girl is healthy, growing, & moving around in there like crazy!  The ultrasound tech said “she is as good as it gets”, which was all I needed to hear!  Waverly Maye came with my mom & I, I definitely think it made everything a little more more real for her.  She kept asking to hear her heartbeat & at one point, started waving & saying “hi baby sister”.  It was at same moment the screen showed her little sister with her thumbs up, I seriously could have died from the cuteness!  Then of course, Waverly forgot all about the whole ultrasound or technician over me & instead begged us to let her listen to “All About That Bass” again.

I also had my spa day, I was there four entire hours for a massage, facial, manicure & pedicure!  I really didn’t even know what to do with myself.  I never do things like this EVER, which was made very clear when the sweet girl doing my facial asked me when I had one last & I had to respond, “my last pregnancy”.  I think she could probably tell by the shape my skin was in. 😉
It really was so relaxing & the best way to re-energize, I feel like things like that are so hard to spend money on or to carve out the time for, yet ultimately, so worth it.  So honey, if you are reading, maybe we should make this a monthly thing?!

A little more about Waverly this week, she is turning into quite the character lately.  She gets smarter by the day, has totally figured out how to negotiate & is pretty damn good at it.  She keeps trying to extend her bedtime, we will be sitting in her room ready to put her down when she will say “I need to tell you something”, over & over again.  She goes into so many random stories & we can’t stop cracking up, I know she loves putting on a show for us.  Cake pops & popsicles are by far her current favorite foods, she will say “hooooow about you give me a cake pop & then I will say cheese?”.  Such a smart girl.

Moccasins
On the agenda for the weekend, a few birthday celebrations & hopefully getting lots of progress done on the nursery space.  I have my eye on this pillow (thanks, Elise!) & have recently started brainstorming bedding!  I also am so excited to get the girls some new headbands from Sadie Sky Boutique, my friend Jess just redesigned her website & introduced many new products.  Finally, we recently picked up this dress for Waverly to wear on Valentines Day, I can’t even believe how close it is!
Wishing you all a very happy long weekend!

Oh, Waverly! I think a cake pop for saying cheese is a great trade off, lol:) She is one smart cookie! So glad things went well in the ultrasound – that milestone is always a bit scary! And can't wait to hear more about your little gal's nursery. I'm sure it will be fabulous! Happy Friday, dear! 🙂

  2. January 16, 2015 / 12:55 pm

Finding out the baby is healthy at an ultrasound is always the best news! Ooh a 4 hour spa day sounds amazing! Did you go somewhere that specializes in prenatal massages? And I'm literally dying over Waverly negotiating picture taking with a cake pop… Smart girl!

  3. January 16, 2015 / 1:11 pm

Yay for a happy healthy growing baby! Good luck getting everything done on the nursery that you want to do this weekend!! I'm sure it's work, but at least it's fun doing it with the anticipation of the arrival of your little one! 🙂

  4. January 16, 2015 / 1:26 pm

Hoooooow about….TOO CUTE!! These kids are SO SMART already!! Cam does the exact same thing…he asks me to sing to him, then he says, "I sing Rudolph while you sing Sunshine." Like, seriously? He comes up with anything to stall bedtime, but I am such a sucker for him!! 🙂 I am so glad to hear that Baby Girl is doing GREAT!! Your bump is so cute, and I am sure your body loves you for the four hours of attention it got!! I vote for a monthly trip…your husband can do that for me, too, if he wants! 😉 Happy Weekend, friend!! Can't wait to see the nursery!!

  5. January 16, 2015 / 1:42 pm

Totally agree, the 20 week ultrasound can sometimes be a touch nerve wracking. I am over the moon excited to see how the nursery comes together and can't wait to see what you have planned. Loving Waverly's new found negotiation skills. That is adorable. Have a good weekend!!

  6. January 16, 2015 / 1:51 pm

Waverly is going to be such an amazing big sister! Praise God for good news at your ultrasound-those appointments always made me nervous too!

  7. January 16, 2015 / 2:11 pm

Happy to hear the ultrasound went great and yay for some alone time to get pampered & relax! I don't go off by myself often enough either! Jason calls them my "mental health" days because, even when you feel like you don't really need one, they make SUCH a difference in how you feel! Xoxo

  8. January 16, 2015 / 2:32 pm

Awww, yay for ultrasounds! Mine got pushed back to 21 weeks, so I have to wait another week to see our babe! So glad your little girl is healthy and happy!

  9. January 16, 2015 / 2:34 pm

Yay for baby girl being perfectly healthy! Can't wait to see how the nursery comes along! Liam is the king of stalling bedtime between more books, more water, & more kisses!

  10. January 16, 2015 / 2:47 pm

Waverly at your ultrasound must have been the cutest thing ever, so glad to hear the babe is healthy as can be!! And super jealous of your spa day.. I think I need to drop some hints to my husband!

  11. January 16, 2015 / 3:03 pm

Oh my gosh she is adorable! I swear she is just like my Ava…Ava will be relaxing in bed and then look over at me, get in my face and babble an entire conversation about dogs and doors and Caillou (ugh…Caillou). And as for the spa thing? Yep, on the same page as well…one of my new years resolutions is to stop skimping on myself and actually get my hair done and a mani/pedi once in a while. It's so hard to justify not only the spending but also being away from the little one, especially as a working mom when time is limited 🙂 xo Chelsea play. wash. rinse. repeat.

  12. January 16, 2015 / 3:10 pm

Aaaaha that made me laugh…ummmm, okay, now can I listen to All About That Bass? BLESS HER! What a precious memory to document. Hilarious. I love it! And YAY for that pillow you have your eye on! 😉 That whole site is filled with cute ones, isn't it?! LOVE! xx

  13. January 16, 2015 / 3:39 pm

So many great things in this post!
Yay for such a great 20 week check and u/s! And, what the heck is it with that dang song? Marcus is OBSESSED (me? not so much)!
Waverly's cleverness is awesome! There's so much negotiating and bargaining going on over here, too. These kiddos… 🙂
    Have a fabulous weekend, momma!

  14. January 16, 2015 / 6:10 pm

bahahha, how about you give me a cake pop and then i will say cheese 🙂 that's great.
my kids are 19 months and 3.5 and they are both hard to take pictures of these days. my older one just doesn't want to cooperate and my younger grabs the camera. i thought of waverly maye and wondered how you get her to smile so sweetly 😉
high five for the great scan!

  15. January 16, 2015 / 6:47 pm

So sweet! And YAY for healthy baby reports! And YAY for long weekends! And YAY for having the same taste 😉 haha! That is the dress I am getting for Charli for Valentine's Day! haha!!!! LOVE IT!!!!! Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend! xoxo

  16. January 16, 2015 / 8:34 pm

So sweet that Waverly waved to her baby sister! And how fun for you to see your little peanut again! It sounds like you are already getting a lot done… I'm so excited to follow along on this journey 🙂 Happy Weekend!

  17. January 16, 2015 / 9:29 pm

YAY for healthy baby! That's what they said to me at Mia's ultrasound and it was SUCH a relief! Sweet Waverly, she really is going to be the BEST big sis! I love her "how about you give me…" Dying!!
Also, I just went on a shopping spree online at Old Navy thanks to you, ha ha! #oops

  18. January 16, 2015 / 9:50 pm

Mac negotiates for suckers. These kids are just too smart! I love her outfit here. And I'm so jealous of your spa day! I need one of those desperately! Maybe I'll just have to get pregnant again?! 🙂

  19. January 17, 2015 / 11:28 pm

She is too cute! "How about you get me a cake pop and then I will say cheese?" So smart! And how do you say no to that? You can't. Which is exactly why she is a genius! lol.
YAY for a wonderful ultrasound and a fabulous spa day! Hope you enjoy your long weekend mama! xo

TGIF, everyone!!  We are so ready for this first weekend of October, mostly because Waverly Maye & I have a date for Sesame Street Live on Sunday!  You guys, I really think she is going to go crazy for this one, I cannot wait to see her little face when she sees all her “friends” in full-size & real life.  As usual though, only time will tell, something this big can really go either way. 😉

We also have a wedding on Saturday, my parents are keeping Waverly overnight again since it’s late & a little bit of a drive.  We will definitely miss her but I’m really looking forward to a date night with the hubs PLUS sleeping in past Waverly’s wake-up time of between 5-6.  Which probably means we will sleep until 8 & will totally feel like new people because of it.  You relate, right?!

Before all the fun begins, I thought I would share a few pictures from last weekend!  We had such a great one, the weather was perfection & we spent pretty much all of our time outside.  I got Waverly this radio flyer when she was just born for Christmas, it has been the best present to grow with her.  She used to sit in it while we rolled her & then learned to walk while pushing it.  Now, she runs with it while collecting random rocks & pinecones, then waving to every single car that drives by.

Hunter Boots (Dress Last Season)
Have I mentioned how much fun this age is?! 😉  We still totally have our moments, but Waverly’s sassy, silly, energetic little personality is just too much these days.  It doesn’t take much to make her laugh (through her whole entire body), I just couldn’t love her more if I tried.
We also went to my nephew’s birthday party, an art show down at the beach, & rounded out our weekend with dinner with my husband’s side of the family.  So much fun, can’t wait to do it all over again over the next couple of days! 🙂

Happy Friday, enjoy it!
XO

Oh my goodness. I can't get over how happy she is. Mason only gives me those big, open mouthed smiles when the camera is no where near. Break out the camera (aka phone) and all he wants is to grab it and turn on Mickey. I have to sneak attack these days!
