Fourth of July Weekend

Can we all just agree that three-day weekends should just be a thing?  We might be recovering for the next week or so, but seriously, it was worth it.  We loved all the festive food, we loved all the color-coordinated clothes, we loved parading around the neighborhood, we loved staying up past our bedtimes (& especially loved sleeping in because of it), and most of all, we loved all the extra time together and with our friends & family.  Holidays have my heart.

The weatherman got it right this time, we had rain upon rain, upon rain. We got a trip to the waterpark in on Saturday before it really started pouring, but both Sunday and Monday were far from sunny pool or beach days.  We made the best of it, spent some time inside making treats with the girls and relaxing around the house, snuck out when we could, and even though it wasn’t our typical kind of outing, took a trip to the beach to walk around and explore.  It was actually kind of nice that it wasn’t crazy hot and the girls loved looking for shells and getting their clothes completely covered in sand. 😉

And the fireworks.  Sunday night, we rode our bikes to a friends cookout in the neighborhood and they set off a few after dinner.  Which set Waverly off into a corner with her hands in her ears.  We decided to leave before she really melted down, and of course, as soon as we were riding off (with both girls in the bike trailer) about 20 fireworks went off at once, for at least four minutes straight.  Poor little Avalon was bawling, wondering why the hell she was out two hours past her bedtime, in a bike trailer, in the dark, with crazy loud noises surrounding her.  And Waverly was sitting there pissed off with her hands in her ears.  Parents of the year.

So by Monday, we definitely decided we would leave before the show, which we did, and watched some online while we drove home.  Without sound.

Hope you all had the most wonderful fourth ever!!!!
XO

PS – Thanks to a friend for recommending these headphones to help with the sound.  I wasn’t able to get them in time, but will definitely be using them next year, these seem like a great option if your babies aren’t into the whole fireworks tradition like mine!

Sounds like a great 4th minus the crying and the rain lol, but it also sounds like you made the most of it! At least they looked cute and festive even if the weather didn't cooperate!

I was definitely terrified of fireworks as a kid – I'm pretty sure I was having none of it until I was at least five or six…and even then, I didn't love them. This too shall pass though; I'm almost 32 and I've loved a good fireworks show for years and years now! I love reading your posts and your girls are adorable!

  7. July 6, 2016 / 8:25 pm

Minus the rain, sounds like a great weekend! Your girls have the best wardrobe!

  8. July 6, 2016 / 8:39 pm

We were rainy too but being by the water definitely makes it a tad better eh?! Love the pictures! Cheers to the week being almost over! Xo

  9. July 7, 2016 / 2:35 pm

Yes I whole heartedly agree about 3 day weekends! Too bad about the rain, but your girls sure did look cute regardless!

  10. July 8, 2016 / 3:37 am

Oh my goodness I just can not help but smile whenever I see your girls! They are my favorite!

  11. July 11, 2016 / 3:46 pm

Love all of their festive outfits!! Especially avalons star head wrap. So adorable. Our 3 yr old was not a fan of the noise either, but thankfully as long as we were holding his ears, he was ok with it.

Fourth of July Weekend

Our Fourth was extra special this year since it was our first big holiday as a family of four & Avalon’s first celebration of many, many to come. 🙂  We were so excited to deck her out in some red, white & blue and bring her along for all of the festivities.  Of course, girlfriend slept through most of them, but we forgave her since she looked so damn cute while doing it, plus I know it will be no time before she’s running around with her older sister during this holiday next year.  Crazy.

We started off Saturday morning with blueberry pancakes & took the girls to the neighborhood parade, which Waverly loved so much!  This was the second year we took her (plus the second time I forgot to decorate the wagon, third time’s a charm?!), the kids all ride around the streets & then meet back to eat treats after.  It’s so much fun & exactly the type of thing I know our little ones will look back on with the best memories.  Afterwards, we spent the afternoon at the pool, Waverly swam her little heart out while Avalon slept & we all grilled out.  We all loved life, such a perfect way to spend a summer day!

And then, the fireworks.  We had been going back & forth about whether we would even attempt them, mainly because Waverly hated them last year and we ended up being the only people in the city driving away from the beach as they were going off.  We had been telling her about them (& showing her videos online) for a couple weeks, one day she loved them and couldn’t wait to go, the next she hated them and would cry if we even mentioned it.  Toddlers. 😉  We went to my parents for dinner, they live really close to the beach so we figured we could just walk both girls down there if Waverly seemed into it, which long story short, she didn’t, so we left to drive home.

Both girls were crying (screaming) the entire drive, Waverly because she was tired (too much partying) & still thinking about fireworks, Avalon because she hates the car seat (like really, really hates it).  My milk was leaking from Avalon crying, plus I had spit-up all over me, because, I have a newborn. 😉  The fireworks started going off during our circus of a car drive & we couldn’t help but laugh, happy freaking fourth of july. 😉
This is definitely life now, good thing we wouldn’t change it for anything.

For the record, the first thing Waverly said when she woke up Sunday morning was “I loved the fireworks, they were awesome, can we go again tonight?.”  Nope.

Hope you all are having the best week!
XO

Your car ride home is pretty hilarious… At least you could find humor in it too! And Waverly waking up the next morning asking to do it again… Priceless!

  2. July 8, 2015 / 12:53 pm

Lol! We had a pretty dramatic 4th too :p these girls.

  3. July 8, 2015 / 12:53 pm

These photos are precious, especially the first one of Avalon and her big yawn! So much cuteness!
Im sorry the car ride was such a disaster, but so funny that Waverly wanted to do it all again the next day lol

  4. July 8, 2015 / 12:57 pm

Oh how funny about the fireworks! We totally chickened out and watched them on TV with the little man. Your girls are just darling in their outfits!!!

  5. July 8, 2015 / 1:52 pm

What a lovely morning, and your evening sounds similar to ours! Liam was up so late the night before that he was a bit of a hot mess on the 4th. I put him to bed before the fireworks and then felt so guilty about it. I seriously cried the next morning!

  6. July 8, 2015 / 2:23 pm

That car ride sounds JUST like a scene out of my life! 🙂 So you aren't in this alone. And seriously DYING over Waverly saying she loved them and wanting to go again…toddlers are crazy!! Love the pictures of your beautiful girls!

  7. July 8, 2015 / 2:57 pm

Your parade sounds like so much fun. The littles will love looking back on the memories of that, for sure!
I'm dying over your fireworks experience. Even more so because of the morning after reaction from Waverly. HILARIOUS!!!

  8. July 8, 2015 / 3:45 pm

This is too funny in a not-funny-way because us Moms have all been in that kind of situation- crying kids, leaky boobs, exhausted! But as you said, we wouldnt change it for the world! The girls looked adorable so that kinda makes the meltdowns go away 😉

  9. July 8, 2015 / 6:32 pm

Your pictures are so so sweet! Love their cute outfits and that yawn is heart melting! I love that Waverly probably dreamt about those fireworks! Too cute.

  10. July 8, 2015 / 7:43 pm

BAHAHAHAHA…. Seriously, toddlers… why?! HAHA! I am sorry but I am dying over here. First, everyone looked perfect and so happy you guys had a great 4th, but seriously, the car ride made me remember like it was yesterday with Charli as a newborn. She too hated the car seat, never failed, I would leak… everywhere! hahaha! Thank God Crew LOVES the car seat, puts him to sleep every time! Oh our live's these days right?! haha! Yall are so cute though!

  11. July 8, 2015 / 7:53 pm

Oh toddlers. Maybe next year will be better? You are brave for attempting to see the fireworks with Waverly… we decided not to even attempt it with Emerson! I'm glad that you had a good fourth for the most part! 🙂

  12. July 8, 2015 / 10:52 pm

HAHAHAHA. Your last sentence! NOPE! Too funny. Though I'm sure it wasn't then, hopefully it is to look back on now 🙂 Sounds like you guys had a good 4th of July… until the very end 🙂

  13. July 9, 2015 / 12:24 am

haha!!! Go figures that she wants to see them again!! sounds like such a hectic night!

  14. July 9, 2015 / 8:05 am

lol to Waverly's reaction and then her request the next morning. Oh my. I hear you on the babe that hates carseats. I swear K was a nightmare to be with in the car until she could understand watching something on the iPad. Hate to admit it, but it was a saving grace when I could drive alone with her in the car with that thing finally. The girls and their matching outfits – I'll keep saying it, but I'm sure jealous of the cuteness overload!

  15. July 9, 2015 / 4:34 pm

This is the absolute cutest! Great pictures! And the crying and leaking part? haha so typical! Been there girl! xoxo

  16. July 10, 2015 / 2:38 am

We didn't even attempt fireworks this year. Last year I said this would be our year…this year I said it would be next year. We'll see what next year brings. Haha!

  17. July 10, 2015 / 10:14 pm

Your 4th sounds like the BEST day (notice that I left out the night? Ha ha!) I am seriously dreading the idea that baby boy could hate the car seat, ugh! I hope not! And I'm pretty sure we won't keep Mia up for the big firework show until she's…. 10? ha ha! The fear plus lack of sleep? Not a good combination!
