I can’t even believe that we have already been home-owners for ten months!! It was at this time last year that we first started to spend all of our extra time searching for houses & now, we have lived in ours for almost a year. These days all those spare moments are spent trying to tackle project after project, which has definitely proved to be a challenge. Between two full-time jobs & a growing toddler who we want to focus on as much as possible, our house to-do list seems to actually get longer rather than the other way around. Yet we know we will eventually get there (even if we are 90), & when we do, all this madness will be worth it. 🙂
My husband & I have worked out a pretty solid plan, I come up with most of the ideas (or Pinterest does) & then he executes them. While he does most of the manual labor, my primary responsibility is to take care of Waverly which most often, involves us leaving the house since the toddler tornado definitely doesn’t need to be around any major renovation. I’m totally down for that, we usually end up at the mall or out to lunch with my mom having some girl time & yes, I clearly get the better end of the deal.
We got lucky with a pretty big house, our downstairs has a living room, dining room & then an extra “family” room right off the kitchen. This room is definitely where we spend most of our time, it’s the only carpeted room we have & can be closed off so it’s the best place for Waverly to be. The wall in there had really been driving me crazy, it was an old wood paneling that just didn’t look right even after re-painting it a total of three times. After the third, my husband was clearly over it & agreed to do something different, especially after finding this cost-effective project.

Baskets & Target Garland (Last Year) |
Although start to finish took some serious time, it was well-worth it & the best part, so very cheap! The wall is covered in reclaimed pallet wood, all of which Joe got free from Craig’s List or just from driving around. He cut them all, covered the wall & then painted our brick white as the final touch. We still have to paint the inside of the fireplace black but otherwise, have one check off the to-do list. 🙂
Lucky for him, I loved our new wall so much that I wanted a matching backsplash in our kitchen. All of our cabinets are white so I thought it would be a good contrast & love the final result!

I hope to share more house projects soon, I really am so thankful for the hard work my husband is putting into our home & that even after long days at work, he comes home to start nailing boards until the middle of the night. Love him so much. 🙂
Of course, while daddy works hard on the house I am more than busy with this little lady. We are loving this spring-time weather & have without a doubt spent more time outside than in lately. I can’t even tell you how many times I have followed this child from the front yard to the back (& the other way around), walked up & down our street (her pushing her stroller & me pushing the regular one, we each have a baby doll strapped in of course), & tried to fit my adult self into that beloved play house of hers. There have been a few tantrums & also many laughs, I’m sure those new neighbors are peeking through the windows & are thoroughly entertained.
We hope that you had a great weekend & have an even better week!!
XOXO

Wow I absolutely love the pallet wall! I am dying to paint my kitchen cabinets white. The backsplash really looks great! I don't even have one currently…and it's been that way since we moved in! You guys really made a lot of progress with your home considering you both work full time and have miss Waverly keeping you busy! Second, it makes me a little jealous since we won't be buying a house and won't be able to do fun things like this for a while (until the hubby retires from the military and we can settle down in one place!) haha! LOVE the wood pallet wall. Did your hubby really hammer in all those boards to your wall to get them to stay?
I looooooove how it turned out!! I can't WAIT until we know where we are going to settle so that we can find a home and make it our own with these projects!

That wall is amazing!! Great job! My husband did something similar in our basement.
Your home is gorg!!!!
Thanks, Katie!!!! 🙂
I read this post the other day but my phone was being dumb and wouldn't let me comment…so here I am, at 12:30am 2 days later, finally getting around to it! HA! I LOVEEEE the wall and the backsplash! Seriously, they look amazing! The backsplash is such a great idea! It looks fantastic with your white cabinets and gives off just the right amount of a "farmhouse" vibe…totally up my alley! I've always loved the pallet walls, but our house already has SO much wood in it, that it would just be overkill. We've got oak floors, knotty pine cabinetry, pine plank ceilings and natural wood trim work…sounds like a log cabin, but it's not! How amazing is it to have handyman hubby's?! I do the same with Sadie by taking her away for a few hours when he really needs to knock out a project and it's always fun to come home and see the progress that he's made!
Haha, love it! I want to be able to stay up late like you when I grow up. 😉 I have a feeling I would love your house, that is totally our style & my absolute favorite! I love, love a handyman husband & being the one to take the little out while they work their magic. 😉
HI! Did you have to do any treatments to the wood before putting it up? I have access to some wood pallets and we are very excited to try this!
