We are three weeks into the school year + living to tell about it. 🙂 Obviously like everything else in 2020, back to school looks completely different but the good news is that we are pretty used to that by now! The last six months I have been constantly reminded of how resilient kids are + how they honestly take to change way better than adults do. I am so thankful for that, especially since this was going to be a big year for us regardless — three out of the four of us girls are in completely new schools and situations!
A little bit about what the 2020 school year looks like our way, at least for now. We are all at school in person, following social distancing guidelines + making the most of it.
Waverly Maye, third grade. Waverly is the only one who stayed at the same school + per usual, she is LOVING it! She is our little social butterfly who thrives on routine and organization, she loves to write lists and schedules and never misses the opportunity to set out her clothes each night. She spends most of her afternoons playing teacher and reciting everything that went on in the school day, she has done this forever + it’s my favorite. She loves Spanish, writing, and most of all being a part of every fun activity and celebration.
Avalon Elle, kindergarten. It still breaks my heart that Avalon’s kindergarten year is not starting out the way we had hoped or ever thought it would, but she is the most go with the flow kid ever + is so excited to finally be at school with Waverly that she only sees the positive in all of it. She loves having a computer, reading books, and is constantly drawing little pictures. She used to be super shy but has grown out of that mostly, she already has made so many little friends and is excited to know a few friends in her class from the neighborhood.
Remerie Rue, preschool. The hardest transition of all. We made the decision to put Remie in preschool this year last winter before any of the craziness, we felt it was best to get her around other kids her age and also for consistency while I was at school each day. Of course fast forward, I have been home with her pretty much 24-7 since March and she is attached. 😉 We knew it would be a challenge to get her used to a new place + new people, and we were definitely right — there have been lots of tears and adjustment, but finally we are at the point that each day is getting better! I am so happy for her to have her own little friends and every day I get SO EXCITED to reunite with her in the afternoon, a highlight for sure.
Sending love to whatever situation you are in this year, I know many families had hard decisions to make + I hope you found peace in what you feel is best for you!!!!! We got this! XO
We rounded out birthday season at our house with a brunch for Remerie, puppy themed because our baby girl LOVES PUPPIES!! Full disclosure, getting the girls a dog has been on the table for a little while but I am just not ready for that type of commitment right now — so a puppy party seemed liked the second best option. 🙂 I teamed up with Ellie & Piper on the paper products and balloon garland, all of the inspiration came from black & white polka dots which is a forever favorite print of mine.
For the cake, I ordered some little dog figurines from Amazon and dressed them up with tiny party hats (diy found here!). The cookies are by my sister-in-law, Heart of Sugar if you are local to VB, her cookies are true little works of art! And lastly, one of my favorite parts, I got each of the girls a pound puppy before the party which they loved, we put them on the table to help dress it up. A true throwback to my 80s childhood, they have been playing with them ever since!
Remie had the best day, she loooooooved hearing us sing the happy birthday song to her and was so dang proud! I am forever so, so thankful for her! Happiest birthday to my tiniest girl, I love you to the moon & back and cannot wait to see all the adventures two will bring for you!

Our Remie Rue is TWO!!!!! Two whole years. I still remember the day she was born so well, I was 11 days overdue & just a couple weeks into the school year with my big girls. I headed to the hospital on a Sunday morning after not feeling her move for way longer than I was used to, and they officially evicted her with my third induction and easiest labor by far. Her pregnancy and labor were so surreal, we are two years in and goodness SHE IS TOO. My third baby girl after a surprise positive pregnancy test on Christmas morning, now with her bright blue eyes & olive skin — I will pinch myself forever over her.
Some of the things I want to remember about a two year old Remie girl. Her personality is a mix of my two older girls, laid-back in some ways but also not at all in others, she knows exactly what she wants and is going to get it but at the same time is sweet as sugar and can turn around being upset in no time. She is equal parts a mama & daddy’s girl, and LOVES her big sisters to the core, always wanting to be right next to them and doing exactly what they are doing. This has been challenging in some ways because it has made her grow up so fast — but both Waverly & Avalon adore her and the three of them have the sweetest bond that has grown so much the past few months as she has gotten closer to two. I have said it forever, watching my girls together is one of my favorite parts of being a mama and I love that Remie has two little girls who love her so very much!
Remerie loves being outside, music, dogs, and Peppa Pig. She would snack all day if we let her and is 110% my best & most reliable sleeper. She will wave to anyone walking by, has the cutest little run in all the land, and still sucks on the same two fingers on one hand and plays with her hair in the other, especially when she is tired. She is a little slice of heaven and we are SO THANKFUL SHE IS OURS!!!!!
Of course, some favorite photos of her from the past year.
Tonight we will celebrate with just the five of us, a trip to the bay to let Remie run and dig, one of her favorite things to do!! This weekend we are having a small brunch with family (puppy themed, since she loves dogs!) — and I just cannot wait to celebrate our tiniest little surprise girl. I love her so. Happiest birthday my Remerie, may all your wishes come true!!!!!
Ohhhh, the summer of Covid-19. In some ways completely like any summer before it + in others it has been SO very different. Either way, we are headed into our last two weeks before break is over (and virtual learning starts), so I thought I would share some favorite photos of our girls from the past few months.
I was uploading all of these photos + noticed that my girls have rarely worn real clothes or shoes all all. 😉 This is such an accurate representation of life the last few months, low expectations, no schedules, and lots of time spent together making the most out of all of this. Mornings at the pool, afternoons at our favorite neighborhood spot, and an occasional short trip to the beach. Hard moments from soooo much togetherness but also some really beautiful ones, and still trying everyday to find the silver linings between all the chaos. Honestly a lot like in general with three little kids.
Love this little trio of girls so so much.
We hope you have had a wonderful summer your way!! Sending all the love as we transition to a fall that looks a whole lot different this year, we can do this! XO
We celebrated our newest eight year old with a rainbow themed brunch followed by an afternoon at the pool, it was the sweetest day for our biggest sister. Waverly typically wants to spend time at the pool on her birthday, I honestly don’t remember the last birthday she had that we didn’t + that she wasn’t wearing a bathing suit. 😉 It’s how we spend most of our summer anyways, so a day at the pool seems fitting for our very first summer birthday girl who was born right in the middle of summer EIGHT YEARS AGO!!!
We did a fun balloon rainbow garland paired with little rainbow things, even though it was just a small brunch I still like to make things special + festive. My sister-in-law came through with the sweetest cookies again (if you are local, her shop is Heart of Sugar), and I am obsessed with the cake topper Carson Ro Designs sent over for Waverly’s ice cream cake, her one request.
This was the first year EVER of Waverly’s eight years of life that she did not get nervous during the birthday song, instead she was feeling herself + loved the attention. 😉 Also three things I always want to remember from this birthday: Waverly spending half of her birthday money buying Avalon a notebook and candy, her new fake pink glasses I got her that she won’t take off, and my favorite of all, her saying first thing on her birthday eve “mom, I tell ya, time is really flying by, these birthdays keep coming.” Tell me about it, sister.
HAPPY EIGHT to the girl that made me a mama! Waverly Maye, you are so uniquely you + I love you more than you will ever know. I love watching you grow and I don’t know how I would ever live without you.
