A First & Our Family Road Trip

Waverly randomly went on the big girl potty the other day for the first time, something I was very, very (very!) excited about!  I had been talking about it for months & we had been convinced that she was ready forever, but this was the first time she actually went through with it, & initiated it all on her own.
I immediately decided that I was officially going to do the “three-day boot camp” starting the next day, the weather forecast wasn’t the greatest & I knew if I didn’t do it then that it would just continue to hang over all of our heads (mainly mine).  Most of the first day was pretty brutal, the closest Waverly came to a success was her feet propped up on the potty while her baby sat on it.  And this only happened because I bribed her with an icee.
Then after her nap, a miracle happened & she peed three times in the potty, with no accidents at all! 🙂  Since then, we have had some major success & I can’t even tell you how excited we all are (again, mainly me!).  I plan to post soon, I have relied on many “potty posts” over the past few days so I definitely plan to return the favor.
I am also excited to finally share pictures from the family road trip we went on a few weeks ago. My husband & I took Waverly to Marion to visit friends, it is in Southwestern, VA & about one hour past where we both went to college.  I was determined for us to have some sort of family trip this summer & was really excited for it, yet of course, more than a little fearful for the drive.
We planned to leave at 3:30 Friday morning, with the hopes that Waverly would sleep for at least half of the 7-hour drive there.  Long story short, that idea was a total bust, she slept for maybe a total of thirty minutes the entire car ride.  The good news is that she pretty much laughed & was giddy as ever most of the trip, something that totally shocked us until we realized that she was delirious from lack of sleep.  Also, we used the hell out of our DVD player, Ipad, cell phones & books – & stopped at random places throughout the day to get her out to move for a bit.  Our last stop was at Radford where I went to college, I haven’t been back since I graduated & it was so much fun (plus surreal) to bring Waverly there.

We had the best time, mainly exploring & living the outdoor life that we all three love so much.  Waverly collected rocks, ran free with the dogs, & got her first bee sting.  Something we didn’t even find out about until we noticed her swollen leg, she seriously didn’t even cry one tear over it.  She is such a tough little thing,  I love her so.

We are wishing you all the BEST weekend with those you love!  It’s one week until Waverly Maye’s birthday so we have lots to do to get ready, but we are getting very, very excited our way!
XOXO

Yay for the potty – I have a friend who made a potty chart and if her daughter went on it, say 10 times, she would get a reward. After a big number they threw her a party. Gives me ideas for the future!

That is so exciting about the potty! I have yet to really attempt it with Scarlett. My plan is to wait until after our vacation in August. So maybe in September we will start… I don't really feel in any rush though. Like you I want to kind of wait until she is ready and initiating it… that could take forever though haha

Love all of the photos, seriously though how sweet are her little outfits. Love your style, Ashley!

    XO Have a great weekend!

Yay for going potty on the potty! I can't wait to hear about how you did it, I'm thinking we're going to start that sooner than later! yikes! Looks like you had tons of fun on your trip! Sad about her not sleeping much in the car, it's so hard on the little ones to travel so far and it's always impossible to know how long they will sleep for. But it looks like you had a fun family trip!

What a fun little getaway!! The sunflower outfit…I die!!! And can you tell Waverly to send her potty training motivation to Arden?! The girl has shown zero interest whatsoever…but I'm looking forward to your tips to use down the road!!!

She is tough, I still cry over bee stings
Looks like you all had a nice getaway
I wish my Annalee would be happy in the car. She HATES car rides!!!

OMG I had so any sunflower tops when I was growing up! I totally forgot until just now! Now I need to go stock up on some for Ellie!

OMG! Yay for going potty! It took us forever with Sydney! Lol. That is so awesome! That trip looked pretty fun! I love that last picture!

  17. July 19, 2014 / 3:23 pm

Where did you find her sunflower top?! So cute! I am equal parts excited and terrified of our future potty training endeavor!

  18. July 19, 2014 / 8:47 pm

Where is that bean bag from? So cute!! We have that same potty just different color. hehe Glad you guys had a fun trip! xoxo

  19. July 19, 2014 / 10:03 pm

YAY Waverly!!!! Mason has shown no interest (except for the love of sticking his hand in the toilet…boys) so I could use all the help I can get! Can't wait for your advice!
On a completely unrelated note, where did you get that bean bag? I've been looking for one for Mason's big boy room and that one is so cute!

This is full of awesome! So great she used the potty on her own! I'm waiting for Aria to tell me she wants to go, sometime, hopefully. I feel like that is the next big step for her! Never been so excited about peeing. I get ya I get ya! =)
Loving the dog picture. And wow what a trooper with the bee sting. I cry like a baby when I get stung. Lies. I curse like a sailor and get irate about it. Bugs that sting are the worst.

  21. July 21, 2014 / 3:51 pm

No way!! How exciting!! I'm definitely looking forward to your post on potty training! Mia still has zero interest but I need to start gathering info now so that I can be prepared for the day that she does!
What an awesome road trip! And you guys are super parents to get going at 3:30! That would kill us!! But I'm pretty sure that's what we are going to have to start doing… we had the BEST road trip over the weekend… except for the actual driving part! Mia threw up (in the car!!!) on the way there, and on the way back she started to cry a couple hours away from home, wouldn't go to sleep and wouldn't eat. Last night I went to check on Mia sometime after midnight and she was sleeping in her puke 🙁 🙁 We are on the go so much that this car sickness thing is the BIGGEST BUMMER!

yay yay yay for potty training success! you know the 3-day thing worked for us too and we haven't looked back! Certainly doesn't mean we don't have accidents every once in awhile, but they are few and far between!

  24. July 21, 2014 / 10:02 pm

Yay for PT Boot Camp success! I need to get on it to read the book and prepare! My, Waverly looks so grown, like a little lady, in that romper pic! Love the boat pic!
