Better-For-You Foods for the Busy Mom

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #LoveDoveFruits #CollectiveBias

Find foods that are better-for-you & quick for busy moms!  Try snacks like Dove® Chocolate Fruit & Nut, click here to get $1.00 off at your local Walmart.

I don't talk about this much on the blog, but it's actually something that's really important to me & I am all about eating nutritious foods and staying active.  Full disclosure, I was a cheerleader and pretty fit in high school, and then went to college and gained the freshman 25 (maybe over that?).  I weighed more in college than I did the day I gave birth to either of my babies.  Ridiculous.

These days, I am much more conscious of what goes into my body.  I know what is good for me, what keeps me full, and most importantly, what is quick enough to make so that it's actually realistic while juggling two kids.  I wish I could say I still exercise, but those days (at least for now) are long gone.  I had the bright idea to take the girls to the day care at the gym while I got on the elllyptical a couple months back & long story short, I made it eight minutes until the lady came to get me down because Avalon was over it.  So even though I obviously am on my feet all the time anyways (also because of those two little ones!), I choose to focus on eating well for the most part and so far, this has worked to keep my weight at a place that I feel comfortable and good about myself.

Here are foods that I have found are my go-to's, that I not only like but that are QUICK & easy.  You can click on this link to download a PDF file so that you can print this & have it as a fun reminder!

Eating well for breakfast & lunch is usually pretty easy for me, most of the foods I like tend to be low in calories and nutritious anyways.  Dinner is definitely out biggest struggle, I try to avoid carbs at night for the most part but obviously still want my husband and the girls to be able to enjoy them, so it can be a challenge to find something for all of us without cooking ten meals.  It's hard enough to just make one. ;)  Some of our favorites lately have been turkey burgers, white chicken chili, or anything that incorporates avocado.  Sometimes I will make chicken & rice for them and then substitute the rice with quinoa for myself.

As for snacks, I recently found a new favorite, Dove® Chocolate Fruit & Nut.  I have a major sweet tooth, so this is such a great option for a mid-afternoon pick me up.  I've tried Dove® Dark Chocolate Strawberry & Cocoa Almond, Dove® Dark Chocolate Raspberry & Honey Roasted Almond, and Dove® Dark Chocolate Blueberries.  All three are delicious!

You can find these at Walmart stores, look for a special in-store display or you can find them on the candy aisle.

If you have any better-for-you meal or snack ideas, please share below!  And don't forget to check out the Dove® Chocolate Fruit & Nut options at your local Walmart.  HAPPY Monday! XO

PS - Congratulations to both the winner from our giveaways last week, Samantha Bergsrud for the caseapp & Brittany Snyder To Emmy's Pretties.  So excited for you both!  Email me to claim your prize.

Fashion Friday & A Giveaway

TGIF!  It's been a long week around here, we have had a teething babe & a big sister who just can't seem to kick her sickness.  You know the kinds of nights when you have walked in and out of your kids rooms so many times that you just give up and let everyone climb into one big bed together?!  That happened more than once this week, and while some extra cuddles were nice, we are seriously lacking some sleep and it's definitely time to roll right into that weekend. :)

I'm sharing one of my very favorite shops for Fashion Friday this week, it's full of headbands and bows for the little ladies and you know how happy that makes me!  Emmy's Pretties has some of the most adorable, girly goodness around, the owner Molly sent Waverly & Avalon some of her spring collection a few weeks back and they have quickly become a go-to for us.

Avalon's Purple Wrap - Avalon's Pink Wrap - Waverly's Bow
I love the fun wraps on sweet little Avalon's head, she does have light hair but it's hard to see so we are all about adding a little fun!  Waverly loves the bows, she is so into accessories these days & likes to put them in "all by myself!  because I am big mommy!".

My favorites of all are this matching set for both girls!

Molly is so sweet to offer 30% to you all starting now through Monday at midnight.  Just use the code BRICKNER30 & enjoy!  You can also enter below to win a $25 store credit, this giveaway begins now and will run until Sunday night.  Winners of both giveaways from this week will be announced next Monday, hope you all have the most wonderful weekend!  XO

Loving Lately & A Giveaway

Happy Wednesday, hope you are having a wonderful week!  I'm excited to stop in with a random list of things I'm currently loving & lusting over, spring stuff always gives me all the heart eyes and what I've seen so far this year might just be my favorite yet!  Enjoy, and be sure to share anything you have your eye on in the comments section, because the more things to love, the merrier, right? :)

1.  These gladiator sandals are just perfect!  I've been on the gladiator trend for at least a few seasons now and am so glad it's still around, they are so fun and can be dressed up or down.

2.  These unicorn basket liners & this Easter garland are too cute!!!  And 20% off right now.

3.  I've already mentioned Gap's line of spring stuff once, but it's so good, I can't help but share again.  We have this eyelet dress in a bigger size to pass down to Avalon, but I love it so much I had to get it in a smaller size as well.  It goes with everything and the embroidery detail is so beautiful!

4.  A few favorite things paired into one, this garland from Target (in-store), these Easter eggs, also from Target ... and this floral phone case!

I recently worked with caseapp, a super fun company that allows you to create your own iPhone cases!!  It was so easy & fun to use, I chose a floral rifle paper co. print online to use for mine.  The case came quickly and is exactly how it looked in the picture I created.  You can order your own for 20% off using the code BEINGBRICK20, there are endless options of what you can create.  Also, scroll to the end of this post an enter to win a $40 credit of your own to caseapp!

5.  I've been wanting a pair of white converse forever, I think it may just be time to go ahead and do it.  Spring dresses with comfy sneakers?  Yes, please.

6,  We are hosting an Easter Egg hunt for a few friends & their little ones in the next couple of weeks, this kit would be the perfect addition!

7.  I am dying over the Pillowfort collection at Target right now, have you all seen it?!  I picked up a couple things in our store the other day, including this unicorn, also this blanket would be so cute in either a little girl or boy's room!

8. Lastly, and my most favorite of all, this picture of Avalon Elle (& her two teeth!) yesterday wearing a headband passed down from her big sister and sitting in the same high chair her big sister did, too! :)

High Chair
Enter below for the $40 giveaway to caseapp, it will begin today and run until Sunday night, the winner will be announced on Monday's post!  XO

Kitchen Organization for the New Year

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #GiveExtraGetExtra #Target #CollectiveBias

Organize your kitchen for the new year by decluttering your counter-tops and only leaving out what you need and a few things you love!  Provide treats for your guests like the new Extra® gum 35-stick packages, which you can save 10% on for the entire month of February using the Cartwheel app at Target.

We've been in our house for just over two years now & though there are still approximately 8954 items on the to-do list, we are slowly getting around to making it our own, a place that we not only love but functions well for our growing family.  I thought it would be fun (and helpful!) to share how we organize our kitchen, since of all places that's definitely where we spend most of our time.

A little background on our kitchen, the white cabinets & big white sink were there when we bought it and I love them both. I have always been drawn to white in a kitchen and few things make me quite as happy as bathing both our girls in that sink, it's saved many long winter mornings when we just needed something for extra entertainment!  The wood pallet back splash was something my husband put in when we did our wall (in the room that connects to our kitchen).  He thinks it's too much so close to the other room but I am all about it, I love how they match and also, give me all the wood pallets, all the time.  The stainless steel appliances we added last winter so really the last "big" thing we have left to do is counter-tops.  We really love the idea of butcher block but think that will be too much rustic with the pallets and also are nervous about resale value with those, so we are thinking a granite in possibly a grey.  Or tan.  Any ideas are welcome. :)

So organization!  I hate clutter & am definitely a "less is more" kind of girl, so I tend to be very selective when it comes to what we have on our counters.  I try to go with a little bit of pretty and a little bit of function, and love to switch it up throughout the year based on the holiday or the season.

I always try to keep fun treats or seasonable snacks in our glass canisters, and I recently added these new Extra® gum 35-stick packages, which I love myself since they are great to pop in your mouth rather than a cookie or a cupcake. ;)  The new packages are durable and in a recycled case that has more gum which is perfect for sharing with our friends or family who stop by.  I also like to keep a pack in my diaper bag!

You can find the Extra® gum 35-stick packages in the checkout line at Target, be sure to pick up a pack to organize your own kitchen!  It's as easy as: 1) declutter, 2) select color scheme, & 3) add personal touches like your favorite gum.

Wishing you all a happy, happy Tuesday!  XO

Dogs, Babes & Weekend Randoms

Another weekend down & we are crazy close to March, where is this year going already?!  I thought I would start off the week with a few pictures I have been meaning to share forever, they are some of my favorites of all time because they show Waverly's true love of animals and her sweet, sweet heart!  Also, little dogs & little babes, is there anything cuter?

We did not get another dog, one yellow lab & two kids is more than enough to handle at the moment, Chloe is my parents dog and Waverly is just obsessed with her.  We totally pull the "if you do this, then you can go see Chloe today" card all the time, and we even facetime my mom more than once a day just so Waverly can see her.  It's so precious, even if Chloe doesn't always feel the love back.

In other news, this weekend was absolutely beautiful, I can't even believe we were beaching it less than one week after we were out in the snow.  But I'll take it! :)

For anyone looking for a new maxi dress as the weather is warming up, this one I am wearing (& just got recently!) is perfect and the best part, it's less than $30!  The color is so versatile and it's super comfy, perfect for running after little ones.  Happy week ahead, friends! XO

Our Week & Spring Favorites

Hello Friday, we are so very happy to see you!!  Waverly got the 24-hour flu this week, she never stops for anything ever, so seeing her down for the count was absolutely heartbreaking. It came & went quickly, once she started turning a corner I took her on a trip for popsicles and a hot pink ball from the grocery store to help make it all better.  She looked up and said, "mommy, today was a horrible day".  Though I loved the extra snuggles and sweetness, there is nothing worse than seeing your kid sick.  Glad to have that behind us, feeling extra thankful for two healthy (sweet!) little girls.

Waverly's new favorite statement to Avalon, "I am your mommy, I will take care of you forever & ever".  We definitely have our issues (she literally can't keep her hands off of her!), but this girl was born to be a big sister.

In other news, this:

At least she was excited to clean up?!!  I couldn't help but snap a picture and also put this one right into the baby book.  I asked her what happened and once again she said, "boys are grumpy".

I wanted to share a few favorites, it may have snowed here this week but I have spring fever!  I'm so excited for it to warm up and am LOVING all the spring stuff out right now.

One, these lace-up sandals are amaaazing!  The heel is chunky enough so that they are comfy but dressed up at the same time, they would work with jeans or a fun dress in a few months.  And speaking of dresses, this blush one is absolutely perfect.  I would love to rock it all spring & summer long!

For the little ones, this dress in yellow, we had it in white when Waverly was little (& will pass down to Avalon) and it's one of my favorites ever!  The quality is really amazing in person.  I also am obsessed with this top & bloomers, and this top for the toddler girls, I want in my size! :)  And lastly, boy mamas, I am dying over this little sweatshirt.  Cutest ever!

Lastly, I'm excited to share a promo code for 15% off Little Unicorn's new spring line, the code is LUPOPUP.  This is to celebrate the fun popup shop in Lindon, Utah tomorrow, we loooove Little Unicorn and wish we could go!  Wishing you all the happiest weekend! XO

"It's Mine" Diet Coke Bottles

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #MyUnique4 CollectiveBias

Happy Thursday!  So excited to stop in today to talk about four of my very favorite things, fashion, diet coke, Target, & of course, my little ladies! :)

I had so much fun styling a few outfits inspired by the diet coke "It's Mine" bottles, they are insanely adorable & so much fun!  Who knew a glass bottle could be so cute?  We love so much about them, the colors, the prints, and the fact that each and every one is unique.  Our four bottles all had bright colors paired with neutrals, along with really abstract prints, so I chose looks for all three of us that had a mix of fun and classic.  Waverly's yellow hunter boots paired with that printed hat might just be my favorite, although Avalon in her little overalls (just like daddy's!) makes me melt in a puddle.

Like most mamas, caffeine is totally my lifeline, so after a couple cups of coffee in the morning I love to re-energize with a diet coke in the afternoon.  These new diet coke "It's Mine" bottles were so fun to do that with, even on a super cold day!  They are available at your local Target (you know you will be there for your weekly trip!), so be sure to pick them up while supplies last, they are exclusive.  Look for the special branded carriers when you go and get at least four to receive a fun 10% discount.

Happy shopping and diet coke drinking! XO

Our Valentine's Day & Date Night Ideas

Hope you all had the most wonderful long weekend full of love & so much sweetness!!  This Valentine's Day was easily one of our best yet, it was also our most laid-back ever, which was probably why I liked it so very much.  Saturday night, the girls had a cousins night at my in-laws house, while my husband and I drank beer, painted our living room grey, and ate a steak dinner cooked (with love!) in our very own kitchen.  And it was perfect.  In years past we went out to dinner to celebrate and this was just so much better, no wait, no expensive food, and no need to wear anything else besides pajamas.

Valentine's morning, we opted for a trip to the donut shop rather than a big breakfast made by us, and then let the girls open their baskets full of pink.  I apologize for what is definitely too many pictures of them in the same pajamas, in the same room, but their little faces just look so different in every one that I literally couldn't erase one of them.  Any other mamas relate?!

Baskets, PJs (Similar, On Sale)
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a current post with some other moms I was a part of, called #topknottalk.  I love the idea of this, it's basically a way to chat & relate to other women, which is something I think is SO important. For my topic, I asked for date night ideas!!!  I got the some of the best answers and during our Valentine's day dinner, my husband and I read them together and can't wait to try some over the next couple of months.  Some of the ones we really liked, board games, painting canvases over wine, and maybe my favorite, going to Walmart with $5 spending limit to shop for the other and then going for ice cream to exchange what you got.  If you have any fun date night ideas, please share, it's such a fitting (& fun!) topic for this month!!  XO

Happy Valentine's Weekend!

Hope you all are as excited as I am to kick off a fun holiday weekend!!  I thought I would stop in and spread a little sweetness to help you get started, some pictures of the girls in pink & hearts in honor of all things love. :)  I took these last week on a random warm day (of course now we are expecting snow), I always like to send out Valentines cards to our families so I thought some beach pictures would be fun this year.

Not pictured, Waverly freaking out over the wind, afraid that both our dog & Avalon would somehow (miraculously) run away, and Avalon eating more sand than I care to admit.  The story behind the pictures is really always my favorite, I know that's the part I will back on and smile most one day years from now.

Waverly's Dress, Waverly's Bow, Avalon's Headband
I can't wait to surprise these two with a couple goodies and a fun breakfast Sunday morning.  As for my Valentine of 17 years now, all I have requested is for him to assist me in painting our family room wall grey.  Sexy, I know.

Also, a little PSA to any followers in Utah, there will be a pop-up shop at the Baby Cubby in Lindon next Saturday, February 20th.  They will have one of our absolute favorite lines, Little Unicorn, for 20% off, their spring stuff is amaaazing & I am so jealous of those of you who are actually close enough to go!  The event lasts from 1-4, along with the Little Unicorn Line, Tnees Tpees will also be on-site and 15% off.  Please shop for me!

Wishing you lots of love with your own Valentines this weekend! XO
