Being Brickner : Hello, October!

Hello, October!

It's so crazy hard to believe that October is here, but we are embracing it.  And excited for it.  It is little miss Avalon Elle's first Halloween and it just warms my holiday-loving heart to think about celebrating with her and for the first time as a family of four.

I feel like I'm usually more on top of my holiday game by this point, like I'm pretty sure Waverly's costume was already done & hung in her closet by this time last year, but I guess that's what happens when the amount of children you have doubles. ;)  I am finally getting together details for the girls Halloween costumes this week & am so excited to see them come together, yet probably should have taken the easier route and listened to Waverly when I asked her what she wanted to be and she said, "purple".

So our fall bucket list!  Despite it not really feeling like fall yet, another round of sicknesses being passed around the house, & the girls naps not overlapping in weeks (someone teach me your ways on that one!), we have been busy.  And having so much fun!  We took the girls on a hike, most people would probably call it a long walk, but there were lots of trees & we were in the woods, so I'm going with the hike thing.  It just sounds so much better, right?!

We have also been watching college football every Saturday, if you haven't caught it before we are BIG Alabama fans - ROLL TIDE! :) They haven't had the best start to the season but we are holding strong, my dad promised he would buy the girls some new headbands if they won so it's safe to say we are cheering extra hard.

I also threw all good judgement out the window & let Waverly paint a pumpkin in our family room since it was raining outside.  She is all about painting and crafts these days, especially if they involve her "favorite color in the whole wide world, purple", so she had the best time.  After about twenty minutes the entire pumpkin was covered, along with her & the mat, I wanted to freak out about how I was going to clean up the disaster while holding Avalon but couldn't when she looked up & said, "mommy, is it the most beautiful pun-kin patch you have ever seen?"  Absolutely.

Next up on the list is obviously a trip to the pumpkin patch, which we are hoping to do sometime very soon if the weather cooperates!  Hoping to share pictures soon, and of course, wishing you all the happiest of Octobers with your sweet families!  XO

  4. I'm fresking out about the boys' costumes too!!! Finn is so much bigger than Liam was, so I think he will wear Liam's costume from when he was one, but I still need to make Liam's this year and I already feel crunched for time!

  6. You seem on it to me if youre already decorated pumpkins! Color me impressed :) And lets be easy on ourselves, it IS only the first of October, plenty of time to shop for costumes (unless you make your own. That is a skill I don't have.)

  8. Oh my goodness. Avalon's face in that second picture! So cute. You can tell she's excited for fall and for Halloween!
I want to let Mason paint a pumpkin too but you are far braver than me letting her paint on the carpet! But seriously it all makes it worth it when she looks up at you and asks if its the cutest pumpkin ever. So sweet!

  15. I am so behind on my Halloween costume game. I know I had everything ready for Marcus by this time last year. Now? Not even a little bit close.
Waverly's pun-kin comment is about the sweetest, most hilarious thing ever!

  17. Getting all the kids to nap on the same schedule is super hard. As a nanny of four children plus my own sweet Ellie, I am able to get them to overly about 90% of the time. While I really only have control over Ellie and her schedule, I have found that once you know the older child's schedule you can usually count that they will always be sleeping at some point between 11:30am and 3:00pm. For the little ones (I nanny a 7 month old) our naps overlap better if he gets up super early so his morning nap happens at 8:30 and then he's ready for his second nap around 11:30 or 12:30 and that will usually give me at least an hour!! Kids are moldable and trainable you just have to stay strong and learn to read their cues. If all else fails waking them up 30 minutes earlier than normal usually does the trick!!
