Real Life

After hearing from so many people what an absolute game-changer having a second baby is, I feel like I prepared myself for the absolute worst pretty much throughout my entire pregnancy.  I have to say though, I have been pleasantly surprised, so far, so good!  We are all alive, happy, & not nearly as sleep deprived or emotionally exhausted that I thought we would be.  We have our moments, but overall, I am loving life as a family of four & sometimes think we could even handle a whole team of kids. ;)

And then both girls got sick this past weekend, & keeping it real, it kind of rocked our world.  Waverly got it first, she woke up Friday morning coughing and so congested, she was just miserable.  We tried to take it easy but really, that's not our strong point.  I know Waverly gets it from me, but she just tried to push through it & it turned her into a monster.  By Saturday morning, she was in tears, kicking and screaming (I think it was over a pair of shoes?), basically a complete hot mess.  I'm going to blame on her not feeling well, though I'm sure her upcoming "three-nager" status had something to do with it, too.  She was upstairs for a much-needed nap by 9:30am.  Avalon would not be put down, she just couldn't get comfortable or happy, which is so unlike her.  Turns out she had it too, her little nose was so stuffed up & it broke.my.heart.  She got so congested that she coughed & threw up all of what she ate on herself, me, & Waverly's bed.  Waverly sat there in shock, then called down to my husband & said "daddy, something has happened up here", and now has been telling everyone that "baby sissy threwed up".

We obviously felt horrible for them, there is nothing worse than a sick baby (except for two), & no doubt, I would have rather been sick myself.  It was a tough couple of days for all of us, with more stressful moments than I can count or care to remember.  Yet the good news, great news, is that we have two healthy girls.  Two girls who still, in between all the crazy moments, gave us the sweetest smiles, snuggles, and who want nothing else but us at the end of the day.

The girls are feeling much better, we have gotten out for some much needed sunshine & fresh air this week, so good for the soul! :)

I usually try to focus more on the positive, but like everyone else, life isn't perfect.  Yet so, so full, I know these are the days, I wouldn't change it for anything.

I hope you are all having a wonderful week!
XO

  1. Two sick kids, that just sounds like yuck! I'm glad you keep it real and blog about real life. Too many people pretend they don't have problems in blog land and that's just silly. I'm glad everyone is better, those pictures are perfection!

  2. Life is perfect in its imperfections. Some of the best memories come from imperfect, unplanned moments. Glad that you are embracing them!!

  3. So sorry your littlest were sick:( But glad to hear that they are feeling better now! It's funny how things change after 2, isn't it? Your normal just shifts to accommodate the new family member and the it's almost as if life never existed before that!:) Avalon sure is precious, Mama! So tiny and sweet. And Waverly looks more and more like you every single day!!! Truly your mini!

  8. i think the sheer lack of alone time is what got to me for the first little bit. and that i'm SO schedule oriented with all of lex's activities that it was insane trying to get two ladies fed and napped and out the door (especially when it took one of them 45minutes to nurse). but past that life was amazing on the days we got to stay home and go with the flow! things are now better that we have a set nap schedule for the wee one that doesnt interfere with the 5 thousand things lex does! i'm glad the girls are feeling better. doesnt it break your heart to see the first one sick already!! sunshine cures all!!

  9. So totally dreading the double sicklies, not to mention the first sickness for Ben. Hopefully Lily won't bring home too many germs when she starts preschool this fall. :/ the days are sooo very full indeed. The most stressful thing to me is not having everyone on a schedule just yet. I know we will get there but it drives me insane to have our days so willy nilly right now.

  10. Oh no! So sorry to hear the little ladies weren't feeling 100% this weekend. There isn't anything worse than sick babes. :/
It's great to see and hear everyone is feeling better. Here's to hoping there won't be any repeat summer sickness for you!

  11. So glad to hear everyone's feeling better! Two is twice the fun, but when both are sick.. ugh its the worst. Bre was congested while Rae was sick with a high fever a few weeks back and it was just awful. I can't even believe THREE is this week. How exciting! and fun!!

  16. The first time both my kiddos were sick I thought I was going to die. Ha! Okay, maybe a bit dramatic but it was HARD. So glad you are past that and made it to the other side! Avalon is such a doll, I love her tiny little mouth!

  18. Oh, being sick is no fun. A house full of sickies is the worst, I'm sure. (We've only all been sick at the same time once--two adults, one baby. Knock on wood.) Glad to hear y'all got some sunshine in! :)

  20. Oh my goodness, ONE sick baby is hard so I can't imagine having two! I'm like you, seriously preparing for the worst and dreading the exhaustion but I'm hopeful that I will be proven wrong (like you) :) Your little gals are just so sweet together. Avalon is starting to get her own little look but my goodness does she ever look like big sis! XO
