It's the Little Things: Our Week & The Waterpark

It has been quite the few days around here, we have had a pretty emotional toddler on our hands.  Waverly has been living up to her new two-year old status, going from laughing hysterically one minute to true toddler tantrums the next.  We had one of the worst grocery trips of all time, it was so bad that three separate people (at different times) told me I should have gotten a few more bottles of wine in addition to the one in my cart.  And then, as I was checking-out, the soft-spoken guy leaned over to tell me he had packed all of the frozen veggies around that wine so I could drink it immediately when I got home.  I think that was right around the moment Waverly knocked the entire display of chocolate bars down.

Using my best mom intuition, I'm going to blame this one on lack of sleep.  I mentioned we have had an early-riser, in addition to that, Waverly has started to fight her naps during the day (I don't think she wants to stop having fun).  I really can't blame her for being a little emotional from a lack of sleep, I'm totally the same way.  We are working through it, already seeing progress, & hope to be back to normal ASAP. :)

In very positive news, I have to give a shout-out to the waterpark for making our summer probably my best one ever.  We are soaking in all of our last days there, I know Waverly is going to miss it come fall.  It really is one of her favorite places to be & it does deserve some major credit.  I'm convinced the shallow water is what taught her to stand last summer & this summer, she is learning to swim!

My husband randomly had off a couple of Fridays ago, we were both so excited to take Waverly to the waterpark together!  I always send him videos of her in action there, but he has never seen it in person before.  We made a day of it, had a big breakfast at home & then headed to the park.  I felt like such a proud mom watching her show off all she can do, when in all actuality, we all know that his genes are the reason she is like she is.  My mom said I wouldn't even get near the water at her age, I don't think I came close to swimming until I was five.  She totally impresses me, watching her is so much fun (& definitely makes up for all those crazy times!).

  5. Oh my gosh....this entire post! MY LIFE!! Cam has been a TERROR lately when he doesn't get enough sleep. I am fairly sure I would have just opened the bottle of wine, sat on the floor and drank it. These kids sure know how to test us!! BUT when she's so stinkin adorable after, you forget about it, right?! And the whole water thing...I was NOT a water baby, and I still hate to swim (although I love being in the water). I wish we had a water park like this - is it a small one or part of a gym? The only one we have is a huge on that costs mega dollars to get in...totally not worth it right now. (Although, it may have been - we'll find out next summer.) Chad was the water baby with a pool at his house, so Cam definitely gets that from him!!

PS I am always telling Cam to "show Daddy..." whatever he just did that made me proud!! Too funny!!! :)

  6. Oh grocery shopping with a little one! I feel your pain! I usually just throw whatever I can in the cart in the shortest amount of time possible lol. We're planning to take Odette to the waterpark soon too, looks so fun :)

  7. Oh that grocery trip sounds awful! Hopefully there will be no repeats of that! Liam has been having a very difficult time sharing lately & wants everything anyone else has, which has made play dates difficult lately. I'm hoping this will pass quickly, but who knows....

  8. I feel like most (all) of our grocery/errand trips go about like yours. All the more reason to stock up on the vino.
The water park looks like so much fun! Between Waverly's swim suit and yours, I don't know whose is cuter!!

  9. Oh Mama, I feel you! And as much as I don’t want to say it, threes were actually harder for us than the twos. I pray that’s not the case with you guys! Being a toddler is tough. Hehe! And how funny that the cashier packed your wine with the frozen vegetables. Good thinking!! It was right around the age of 2 when Mason started boycotting naps, too. He despises them…and doesn’t want to slow down to take one. He actually drew his teacher a picture Monday night with a little boy laying down (complete with a dream bubble) with a circle and slash through it and asked me to write “Can we please not take naps at school”. So funny! These pictures are entirely too cute! I love all of the swimsuits! Waterparks are fun. We took Mason to one a couple of weeks ago for the first time and he can’t wait to go back!

  10. Ay yi yi there must be something in the air in toddler world because these have been how our recent grocery adventures have been playing out. Except for yesterday when they BOTH tag teamed and turned on me in the Target checkout lane. Ahhhh these are the days :) At least you have very considerate people at your grocery store concerned about your wine temperature ;)

  11. OH my gosh, I feel ya! And the looks you get, at least you were getting sympathy instead of "other" look. I hate that look. That hat is ridiculously cute! And I was thinking, oh my gosh her suit is so cute, I wonder where she got it, and then you post one that is very similar, I might have to get it. Thanks!

  12. Your swim suit is the cutest thing I've ever seen! So nice that dad got to see her in action at the water park. But, oh so sorry about the grocery trip from hell. Although I love that you got your wine packed in 'ice'. Nice touch packer guy!

  15. Her swim cap! So cute!!!! And I feel your pain re: the grocery store ... we had a period of time around that age where we decided not to go to a restaurant with kids ever again! (We had a good 6 months of take-out only!)

  17. I try my best to do all of my grocery shopping without my kids in tow. It is just too stressful with little ones! I'll take them to Target for a thing or two, but that's the extent of it unless absolutely necessary.

Waverly's sunglasses are adorable! I like them better than mine! I wonder if they come in adult size???

  18. Eeeekk! Glad to see she fits in and likes the swimsuit that we got her for her birthday! (and the sunglasses too if I remember correctly :) That water park looks SO fun with that water slide that you two are going down together. Seriously, if we had one of those, we just as well move in because Mason would NOT want to leave!

  19. I want to come plaaaaay! We sure are blessed with amazing mountains to hike, but we don't have one splash pad in my town, let alone a water park! You both look like you had SO much fun!
Mia has not been sleeping (naps or night) and it's KILLING me! We've never had struggles with her sleep like this before. I am blaming it on our lack of routine. I haven't been sticking with her naps or bedtime very well because we are trying to fit in all the fun we can before it gets cold.... and I'm paying for it now, ha! I'm hoping we can get back into our routine!

  20. Our girls are just so much alike it's crazy!! Maddie is fighting naps too and hitting the tantrums like they are freshly baked donuts on special. Argh tough times! And can I just say, you look fabulous in a swimsuit! Totally envious!

  21. So so so cute! Been reading your posts while on vacay but decided I had to comment even though it's hard on my phone, because Waverly is just too cute in the water! Wish we had a park like that near us. And love love your mommy n me matching suits! Yikes on the toddler meltdowns. :(. K has just recently begun and I don't quite know how to keep my cool yet. Not looking forward to 2...
