It's The Little Things: Week Thirteen

I remember sitting on the beach during our honeymoon in the Bahamas (dacquiri in each hand), planning the many travels we would take as husband & wife.  Our first big trip would be back to the same hotel one year later for our first anniversary, followed of course with really, really fancy trips around the world.  Fast forward one year, we spent our anniversary in the glamorous city of Williamsburg, about 45 minutes from our house.  I was nine months pregnant & literally about to pop, we obviously couldn't go too far in case our little girl made an early debut (she didn't by the way, she was obviously fashionably late).

Since having Waverly Maye, I am that mom who wants no part of leaving her overnight.  I'm sure it will happen one day yet for now, the thought of it is a little more scary than appealing.  And as far as family trips go, as important as it is for me to make sweet childhood memories for her, I can totally make that happen within a few miles of our city.  Traveling with a toddler honestly scares me shitless (lame, I know).  I am really afraid of messing with our solid routine & don't even get me started on the U-Haul we would need to rent to bring everything we would need for our one child.

So for this year's spring break, I had no major plans except to spend every moment I could with my girl, no interuptions.  The thought of that, made me oh so very happy.

Much like Easter, most days the weather was less than impressive but we made the best of it.  Every morning, I got to be the one to run down the hall & get her from bed, quickly after I would bring her back to mine for the best morning snuggles ever.  My favorite.
We spent our days at the park, mall or the kids gym, out to lunch, & even one morning at the circus.  We endlessly played with puzzles & bubbles, & of course, tried on more shoes than I can count.  Waverly learned new words & phrases by the hour.  Her favorite naturally being "sit down" to our poor dog as she desperately chased him around the house, or "I bump" to let me know she is very ready to jump on the bed.  Most days, she was so excited I was home all day with her that she even decided to skip her nap.  Love her so much.

Our days together were tiring for sure (I definitely wouldn't describe it as a break), but overall, completely perfect.  No matter if you are a SAHM or a working one, it's easy to complain or to envy someone else's situation.  I'm totally guilty of it yet at the end of the day, I really do try to see the positive in everything & for us, this is obviously it.  My job allows me to have breaks like these (including one long one in exactly 8 weeks!), & even more importantly, makes me really realize how precious every moment with her is.
For that (& for Waverly Maye), I am forever grateful.

And just to put it out there, I am also thankful for the man/pedi & date night we were able to fit in over my break, too.  It's those little things too, right?! ;)
It's week thirteen, so you know the deal! All you have to do is write your post with whatever "little thing" it is that you would like to share & then link-up with either Jess or me at the bottom of this post! 2. I'm so glad you had such a sweet week with Waverly! I must admit, I'm terrified to travel with a baby/toddler, too. Road trips are okay, as we've already been on more than a few of those, but anything by plane really freaks me out. I have a writing retreat coming up where I'll be gone all weekend and as excited as I am to go, I'm already basically devastated about being away from Kiernan for that long. Also, we just started Kiernan in a kids gym and it's so great!!

  3. I could not agree more.... being a SAHM is so tiring, yet so worth it! But yes, it's important to do little things for yourself once and a while too. And I'm sure that whenever you do decide to take a little family vacay, it will be much easier than you think! ;o)

  4. Priorities change, I always think of myself as a traveller but I could see that changing pretty quickly with babies. We are going overseas soon and the thought of leaving my puppy behind is bad enough! I'm glad you and miss Waverley have had a great break together!

  5. I totally hear you on the traveling! It is so intimidating to get them all packed and then take them in a completely new environment!

  7. Living for that first vacation is totally tough! The first 3 days are worth it but after that is just too much. Ha! We travel a lot to see family and oh my! Talk about disasters! It's hard being off routine but I will say now that Lily is getting older it is getting so so so much easier! She'll actually sleep now. Ha! Before it would be 5 hrs in 3 days. Oh vey. So happy you enjoyed your SAHM adventure! Can't wait to hear all y'all's adventures for the summer break!! -xo

  8. It sounds like you had a pretty amazing time with Waverly! Ahhh, travelling with a child is so crazy, we went to see my family for the Easter weekend and we end up taking so much stuff for our son, Caleb. Plus, it takes me ages to pack everything and then double check to see that I have everything! Gone are the days of quickly throwing everything into a bag! But then I wouldn't have it any other way than how it is now :)

  9. She is the BEST dressed baby by FAR! Stinking adorable!! And you are so right, everyone is envious of everyone else's situation. I know I am so lucky to stay home with my girl - but somedays I long for adult conversation, a quiet lunch break & 'purpose' - not that being a mom doesn't have purpose (it has FAR too much) but some days it's hard to see the point in sticking to a schedule, being covered in food & poop & chasing down a tantrum ridden toddler. So thanks for the reminder - to be thankful.

  10. I think it's so funny how some things change with motherhood. As we've added to our family we go out on trips less and less and I've become totally ok with that too. It sounds like you guys had the best time during spring break! Waverly looks adorable as always!

  12. What a sweet post. I love that you got to spend a whole week together. We're getting ready to go to Florida for a week with Mac and I am dreading all the packing we're going to have to do. But I think it'll be great once we get there and get settled in.

  16. I was scared to travel with Clay at first too- all.the.stuff. But after our second or third trip, I cut my list in half (it also helps that we don't have to travel with a breast pump or bottles anymore). I only take the essentials and if we happen to need something, there is always a Walmart or Target right down the road!

  17. I love this! Your Waverly is a living doll. I'm so glad you and her got so much needed gal time. Sounds like you both enjoyed it thoroughly. I think being a SAHM, I forget how much I'd miss being home if I worked outside the home. I guess it's all in what you get used to!

  18. We haven't left Liam over night yet, and although I'm ready...he definitely is not! You are such a good mommy and have the right attitude. Now I look forward to family vacations (near or far) and with other families. We'll have plenty of years to escape without the kids later on!

  20. Morning snuggles - YES! Those are the best.
Don't be scared to travel with the little! Everything you need is basically already in your diaper bag (just add a few more snacks, diapers, and wipes, and you're good to go)!

  21. First time to your blog. So cute! I am dying over all your sweet girls shoes, those moccs and hunters (swoon). Spending one on one time with our babies is the best! Such a sweet mom to cherish that time with her.

  22. You are definitely not the only Mama who's afraid to leave her little one for a night. I'm right there with you! Can't stand the thought of it. So glad you got to enjoy a full week of morning cuddles with your little. That's the best! Your summer break will be amazing! :)

  23. Oh my gosh, Waverly might have the best wardrobe ever! Let's be best friends so you hand me down all of her clothes :) No seriously though, the black and white one, to die for! Love this little ones post. I wasn't going to post today, but I might have to now!

  25. What a perfect spring break!! You two are the cutest mommy/daughter duo EVER!
But I have to say, traveling with a baby is the BEST! But now that Mia is over a year old? Little trips are fine, we've done a few of them. But I'm not about to shell out the big bucks to go on an amazing vacation just to be a slave to naps and bed time for fear that my little precious will turn into a monster with non stop tantrums :) ha ha!

  26. Such a beautiful post. Waverly always melts my heart with all her sassy poses! SO adorable! xoxo

  27. She is hands down the most stylish little baby around. Where do you get the majority of her clothes? I'm in love with everything you put her in. Too much cuteness! So glad you could spend so much time with her!

  28. ha, nap time vs more momma time! Momma time wins, who needs naps? I think it is just so great that as a teacher you can have those breaks to be a temporary SAHM. You get a little bit of both. But, you are right...not so much a 'break'.
