HAPPIEST Halloween, friends!
Waverly Maye & I hope you are having a festive-filled holiday!
Boo Dress
We are totally feeling the excitement over here.  It obviously would be nice for the holiday to fall on a weekend so we didn't have to work the next day, but it actually has been a welcome FUN addition to the week.  And let's be honest, my holiday celebrations have obviously changed from late night partying with friends to pumpkin patch dates with this cutie!
And I wouldn't have it any other way. :)  I actually feel that we are professional pumpkin patch people now, seeing that we visited three this month, each one available in our area.  I realize that's most likely over the top & completely unnecassary, but I can't help but to soak in every holiday moment now that I am a mom.  That, & the pumpkin patch is the perfect place for wild Waverly to get some energy out.
I typically send cards out for each holiday & we used these pictures for our Halloween card this year.  It's crazy to look back on last year's photos when Waverly Maye was just three months old, both from the ones we used for our cards & from Halloween night.
Last year definitely was special.  It was Waverly Maye's first official holiday ever, & our first as parents.  But this month has already been so memorable, we have had the best time celebrating with our toddler who is learning & growing by the day!  We can already tell she loves a holiday as much as her mama, & that Halloween might just be one of her favorites.  That would make sense, since we are pretty sure she was concieved during our final Halloween as a family of two. :)
And we are so glad she was, we got the best TREAT ever!!!!!

We wish everyone the BEST day & hope you have fun tonight adorning your COSTUMES.  We can't wait to share ours!  Trick or Treat! :)

Trick or Treat TTT: Waverly's Weekend Wear

We went three for three this weekend.  And by that, I am referring to an entire weekend of kid-friendly, Halloween themed events.  And for one more clarification, the "we" refers to only Waverly Maye & I.  While my husband is a good sport, we both felt it was best for his sanity to only attend one "boo-palooza" on Saturday.
Which I completely understand.  Maybe if it was a BOOZE-palooza, it would have been a little more male-friendly for 3 days in a row!!

We kicked off the weekend with a Halloween party at Waverly's kid gym.  It was so much fun & pretty much the definition of what Halloween with kids should look like.  Waverly Maye wore her costume but because I can't help myself to keep it a surprise for the big day, I'm going to wait for Thursday. :)

On Saturday, we took this cutie kitty to the Boo Zoo.
Our local zoo was set up with kids games, candy, & lots of Halloween decor.  Waverly was in awe of ALL she had to look at, and I was in awe of the sight of her in that adorable trench coat.  Really, is there anything cuter than a toddler in a trench coat?!  We originally bought it at H&M for her to wear last year, but her little arms couldn't fit into it.  So even though it's sized at 6 months, it's perfect for this fall/winter.  You can find at similar one at Gap in toddler sizes here, if your child isn't a sweet little shortie like mine. :)

And like we have many times before, we paired the trench coat with one of our faves, leopard!  Both the hat & pants are from Gap & we can't wait to wear them all season long.

As if we hadn't had enough, Sunday brought us one final holiday-weekend celebration & outfit!  This time, Waverly rocked some bright orange in honor of Halloween.
I can't say enough good things about freshly picked moccasins.  They are expensive, but totally worth the money since they are so easy to get on & stay on, are comfy, & incredibly cute.  We have a few pairs, but the orange ones (appropriately called pumpkin!) have been so festive for the month of October.
Gap Hat, Not Available Online
And for a few family shots, I am LOVING this hat I found at Target (in stores).  It's the ideal color for fall & even more importantly, perfect for those days you don't have time to wash your hair!  #momlife

Other than the fun fall fashion, it was so much fun to celebrate all weekend long with Waverly.  She is at SUCH a fun age right now & I just can't get enough of her sweet little self.  We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  We are super excited to share pictures of Waverly's costume later this week & to see what all of your little ones are wearing.
  Happy Halloween Week!

Fifteen Month Update

Happiest FIFTEEN months to the love of our lives, Miss Waverly Maye. :)

Stats:  15 month appointment is next week, but we are guessing 22 pounds & 27 inches.  (Just looked back on Waverly's 14 months stats, and we guessed 28 inches, but she clearly wasn't since my mother-in-law just measured her last week at 27; great things come in small packages!).

Current Words & Other Milestones:  Favorite words of the moment are still dada, momma, bogger, ice, uh-oh & hi (while giving kisses & petting our faces, total heart-melter).  New words are baby & we are convinced she can say "what's that?" when she sees something new.  This month, we have started working with flash cards each night and are really excited about how much she can understand now.  On more than one occasion, we are certain that she has even told us when she needs her diaper changed.  Yes, we are obviously convinced our child is a certified genuis! :)

Teeth & Sleep:  Waverly now has 6 teeth & they are just the cutest!  Our sleep was going great each night (7 PM - 7 AM) until this past week.  She has woken up the past three consecutive nights & will only go back down while being held.  As much as I love her cuddles, I definitely don't want to fall into that routine so we are hoping this isn't a "15 month sleep regression" much like the four month one.  Cross your fingers for me.

Favorite Foods:  Not much has changed here, still loves any & all carbs, goldfish, vanilla wafers, & munching on apples.  New to the mix is candy corn, a total mom fail for giving one to her because now she wants them ALL the time.  At least I can say she is in the holiday spirit!

Favorite Toys & Activities:   WILD Waverly has only gotten more active during her fifteen month, which I didn't even think was possible!  This child is on the move, ALL of the time & definitely is more active than any of the other babies we are around her age.  As tiring as running after her can be, at the end of the day, her energy is also one of the many things I love about her.  No moment with her is ever boring, she is super enertaining & animated!  Waverly definitely keeps us on our toes & I have a feeling that may never change. :)  Other than running about endlessly, favorite activites & toys are playing with her babies, books, & momma's jewelry.
Least Favorite Activities:  Waverly Maye is honestly the happiest girl, as long as she is moving!  :)Mommy's least favorite of Waverly's recent activities?  Our sweetheart has learned to pull hair & lucky for her, her mama has a lot of it.  I have noticed that she does it mostly when I won't let her have what she wants, so she definitely knows the meaning behind it.  A sign of the terrible twos a little early?!  The good news is that usually within moments, her sweet little self comes out and gives me a kiss or the best hug.  She is definitely sugar & spice, & everything nice.

Extra Comments:  Clearly, I have my hands full with this one.  This month has definitely proved that!  Yet overall, that is just what makes her Waverly & we wouldn't have it any other way.  Even though I have had fifteen months to fully realize it, I still find myself looking at her in complete disbelief that she is ours.  That she was created in my belly & a result of me & my hubby, it really is nothing short of amazing.  SHE is really nothing short of amazing.  Waverly is our world and has made us the happiest little family.
Best month yet?!  I think so.  Can't wait for more!
Happy weekend, friends!

Five on Friday

HAPPY FRIDAY, friends.
And if it gets any better than a Friday, which is obviously really hard to do, happy LESS THAN ONE WEEK until Halloween.  We are getting pretty holiday happy over here. :)
Linking up with Natasha, Darci & the ladies, here are my five!
ONEDaddies & Daughters.  I mean, does it get any cuter than a dad & his daughter?!  I cherish my relationship with Waverly Maye & just know we will be BFs forever, but I can't help but get all sappy over my hubby & his girl.

Those two (& the dog) are just too adorable for my ever-emotional mommy heart.  Waverly LOVES her daddy to the moon, without a doubt, & I just know she is going to be as close to him as I am to my own dad.
Because I don't want to be left out, I just have to have a moment for me & my mini, too.  I clearly can't do badass things like ride a skateboad with her like he can, but oh I love her so!
TWOSoup & Pumpkin Carving Night.  Last weekend, we hosted a Halloween-themed dinner for friends.  We made the yummiest chicken & vegetable soup and halloween cupcakes for dessert.  And of course, we served adult beverages in the most festive of ways.
THREEHalloween Pasta.  Speaking of festive foods, I picked up a couple packages of this halloween-shaped pasta last month at TJ Maxx, and have had the best time making it for Waverly Maye this week.  I totally get that she sees no difference in this pasta & her normal dinners, but it's the thought that counts, right?!  I also came across pumpkin-shaped tortilla chips & skeleton-shaped cheese puffs at Bed, Bath & Beyond and am so excited to add some fun into snack time next week!
FOURRadio Flyer Wagon.  My mother-in-law passed down this wagon to us, and it is just the most fun!  Waverly loves her wagon rides, almost as much as she loves pushing the wagon herself.

I plan to use this for our first official trick-or-treating adventure next week & obviously for lots of family walks this fall.  It has enough room to even bring the 1.2 million essentials we need for traveling with a toddler AND to fit more than one child ... one day. :)
FIVE:  It's a weekend full of Halloween festivities for us, including a kids costume party tonight at our kids gym, a day at the "boo" zoo tomorrow, & delivering some special holiday treats for friends & family.
Here is to the holidays!
We hope that everyone has a festive, FUN, & safe weekend!  I am getting so excited to see Waverly Maye in her costume, and to see what all of your little ones will be wearing, too!  Am I the only one who has been working on my daughter's costume since August but haven't yet put one thought into what I will be wearing?
Just checking.

Trendy Tot Tuesday: Halloween Edition

Thank you for supportive comments & suggestions on my post about Waverly's sitter situation yesterday.  One of my favorite parts about having this blog is being able to relate to other moms who have been through similar situations. It is so reasurring & helpful, so thank you!
Now on to talk about fashion AND a holiday, I'm not sure it gets any better than that! :)
We are officially nine days away from Halloween, and to say we are excited is an understatement!
If I'm honest, I really did not get into Halloween until I became a mom. Something about dressing up in a weird, silly looking costume was never that appealing to me. I think it's because I really would just rather wear a normal, fashionable outfit (don't judge!).  Whatever the case, now that there is a mini involved, I can't get enough.  Just like everything else in life, Waverly Maye has made Halloween so much fun & so special.
Over the weekend, we hosted a soup & pumpkin carving night at our house.  Naturally, Waverly dressed up in theme & was just the sweetest little pumpkin.  She can totally pull the black & orange combo off, something I could never quite do.
Headband & Freshly Picked Moocasins
My mother-in-law finished her costume over the weekend and I cannot WAIT to put her in it for the real deal.  I just know she is going to have the best time trick-or-treating through our new neighborhood!  By then, we will have visited every pumpkin patch in the area so I think she should have this whole Halloween thing down.
Spot all those teeth our little pumpkin is growing by the day?!!
Waverly Maye is our own, real life jack-o-lantern!
I really do think my girl loves a holiday as much as her mama, oh I love her so! :)
Thanks to Kelly, Megan & Lindsey for hosting ths link-up, we really do look forward to it!
Hope everyone's week is off to a great start!

The Sitter Situation

Today marks the seventh Monday that I have left Waverly Maye for work this school year.  I am happy to report that our family of three is in a really good routine.  For the most part, our weeks run smoothly & most days, I (almost) feel like I have this "working mom" thing figured out.  Yet if I'm honest, getting here hasn't been easy.  It turns out that this girl, while usually cheerful & happy as can be, is not as adaptable to a new social situation as I originally assumed she would be.

Last year, when Waverly Maye was an infant, she stayed with family/family friends everyday of the week.  She rotated between my mom, sister-in-law, grandparents & a close friend who came to the house.  The majority of the time, there were really no issues & Waverly seemed mostly unaffected by the situation.
From the very start, our plan for this year was to get Waverly in more of a constant environment (rather than four different places each week) & around other kids.  So over the summer, I met with a friend of my husband's family who runs a daycare from her home.  She watches a couple of kids who were around Waverly's age & her house was close to ours, so I assumed the situation would be perfect.  Waverly has always been such a happy baby & although her crazy, outgoing personality keeps us on our toes, that same personality was what I thought had kept us from ever having to deal with seperation anxiety.  Waverly LOVES people & has never been shy, especially around other kids.
My mom intuition was totally wrong in this case.  Long story short, my non-crying baby cried  through most of the first week at her new sitter's house.  It was emotionally painful & exhausting for all three of us.  Yet even though I really wanted to immediately quit my job & hold her close all day long, all the books & advice we got convinced us that it would get better each day.
(that she would be all smiles again ... )
It didn't, instead it got worse.  It got to the point that Waverly would cry when my husband pulled up to the driveway each morning, & when I pulled up the house in the afternoon, she was crying so loud I could hear her from my car.  Totally gut-wrenching.  The only thing harder than leaving your child each day is doing it & thinking about her feeling like that without me.  For whatever reason, Waverly Maye could not adapt to that situation & at the end of the day, I had to do what I felt in my mommy heart was best for Waverly.  We looked into our options & have since changed back to family each day, two of the days with Waverly at our house with a close friend.  She is SO much happier, which to me, was first & foremost.
I am so appreciative of Waverly's first official sitter for taking good care of our girl for that short time.  I really wanted it to work, yet at this point, at still only one-year old, I just didn't think it had to be time just yet.  I do know that one day, I am not going to be able to "opt out" of kindergarden because Waverly cries & misses us (although I'm not promising I won't want to ... if that happens, I will obviously be crying to).  In the meantime, something tells me we will have to face these seperation issues one day , so thoughts or suggestions are definitely welcome! :)
I just LOVE this girl to pieces & want to do what is best for her & her future.
Happy Monday, we hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  Looking forward to Trendy Tot Tuesday tomorrow, we may a fun little holiday look to share. :)

Five on Friday

It's FRIDAY, my favorite day of the week.  I will take it!
How about a list of the FIVE things I am loving right now to celebrate?!
ONE:  Hunter Green.  I have always loved green ... which is probably why the nine bridesmaids at my wedding wore the color.  It is so fresh, versatile, & best of all (for me & my mini), it is the ideal shade for a redhead.  Lucky for us, this fall it is totally on trend & pretty much everywhere.

TWO:  Car Organization.  Even though I pack Waverly's bag each night, it's inevitable that between my husband dropping her off in the morning & her day at her sitter, stuff just disapears.  All the time.  I can't even count the number of times that we have gone out after picking her up & been in total crisis mode because one of her essentials was missing.  And let's face it, there really is nothing worse than being out with a toddler unprepared.  So in an effort to at least appear like I am a working mom that has it somewhat together, I did this.

Thank you to Jen at IHeartOrganizing for inspiring me to do this!  I just used an old basket I had from Micheals & clear pouches I found on sale at Target.  I included a bag for snacks, toys, paper plates & plastic forks, extra wipes, & a sippy cup.  So far, our afternoons have run a lot more smoothly. #thankgoodness #iwasgoingcrazy
THREE:  Trader Joe's Pumpkin Pancake & Waffle MixI mentioned this on our weekend recap this week, but had to share again!  Ladies, it is so yummy & easy to make.  Win & win.
FOUR:  Our Chevron Pumpkin.  Do you think it would be socially acceptable to just paint myself in the chevron print?  Because I really am obsessed & may need help (see what Waverly wore this week here.)  So it's only fitting that this chevron pumpkin now proudly sits in our entryway, greeting anyone & everyone who walks through our front door.

I'm not going to lie, my talented husband helped complete this DIY project.
*You know the song "anything you can do I can do it better ... ."  My husband in a nutshell.
The reality is that he can, damn it.
FIVE:  Soup & Pumpkin Carving Night.  Tonight we are hosting a soup night with friends & are going to carve our very first pumpkins of this year!  It is safe to say we will be knee deep in pumpkins while enjoying festive fall goodies & adult beverages.  Halloween Heaven!
Thank you to Darci & the ladies for hosting this link-up!
We hope everyone had the best week & has an even better weekend!!! :)
